It's one I have gone back to often to check names of books recommended by you lot.
SO I decided to start a new one with a more meaningful title.

just read Brent weeks new book The Black Prism, a pretty good book, moves at a good pace, only thing about it is when he described the magic and every time a character is using magic i think of playdo, u'll understand if u read at , but anyway a decent book
Way of Kings is also a great book as well, hopefully another great series, characters are pretty good, but its seemed to be going at a slow pace so yea maybe anoth wot as sunshine mentioned.
The Sword of Truth series,read the first 3 so far, its ok average, 1 and 2 meh but i enjoyed number 3 and it seems hes gettin better the more i read so lets hope by 12 its super fantastic...
thats what i've read in the last 2 weeks

Started Terry Goodkinds Sword of Truth series based off recomendations in this thread My conclusion so far is that it is a total fukin rip off of JV Jones's Sword of Shadows series I'm up to book 2 (bought em all mind you), and they are virtually identical storylines/plots ...un fuckin believable Check out the sword of shadows series if you've read Goodkinds and vise versa and see what I mean  Still...good Author...shame he rips off other Authors for his work though and I hope he gets a bit of originality in there shortly...or gets sued for it |

its probably the other way around chal cause terry released his first book in the sword of truth series in 1994 and jv released hers in 1999 so maybe she riped him of  |

Though I did enjoy JV Jones' Baker Boy trilogy, it smakced a bit too much of Magician and a few others with the poor boy suddenly coming into magical powers.

Like How Warhammer40k and Starcraft are quite similar? They both have power armour, and fighting a super-powerful biological enemy. Except of course, didn't Robert A. Heinlein establish that already in Starship Troopers? (I still need to read the actual book..) |

Just to get the timeline straight
Robert Jordan - Wheel of Time 1990
Terry Goodkind - Sword of Truth 1994
Chal don't read the Sword of Truth series, it borders on plagarism of the Wheel of Time series and is just not as good. Granted it might add a little to the spank bank for younger readers, but WoT has better story and character development. It seemed like half of the first SoT book was about a guy being tortured, snore. I read four of the SoT books waiting for it to get good and it just didn't. I did a rant about this somewhere but I can't find it.
Kaotic - I know what you are saying about similarities, but sometimes it is a bit more than that. The similarities between WoT and SoT goes beyond genre and plot similarities. SoT is like fan fiction of WoT. And Kaotic, you are going to get a surprise if you read Starship Troopers, the book is nothing like any of the movies or games, it is a distopian story more than a sci fi, I would compare Starship Troopers to Logans Run, 1984 or Brave New World.

My favorite series of all time is the WoT series and see exactly what you mean..the whole "Sisters of the light", bad guys..has a VERY familiar ring to it...you're right..I'm up to book 4 and its basically a retell of Jordan, and if you read The JV Jones ones and you start thinking "Fark me..bit of originality please ppl" Reading Robin Hobb as suggested by someone in here as well..cheers for that, not a bad series |

Im a nerd so I have been reading nerd books. So I would recommend the Darth Bane books in the Star Wars Series they are called,
Path of Destruction and
Rule of Two.
Im just starting rule of two now and its pretty awesome.

Favorite series ever....well fair enough....I know you don't read much sci fi Chal, but you should check out David Feintuch's Hope series and David Gerrold Chtorr series. They aren't mainstream books, but if you can dig up copies of them they are great books, and good examples of the genre.

A little off the fantasy/sci fi for me, I am almost through the Book Thief by Markus Zusak. The way the story is told is epic! Enjoying it a fair bit. Good for me to get out of fantasy once and a while xD. Its narrated by Death, aka the grim reaper and follows a Liesel, the book thief through his childhood in Nazi Germany.
Almost going through Superfreakonomics by Steven Livett. Great book for anyone studying economics or with an interest in it. Some of the comparisons are hilarious.
For example in the first book -> Why the KKK are like real estate agents
Economics of drug dealing
Cheating in teachers vs sumos.
