when i was 19 i lost 3 points for speeding, then another 3 for going through a stop sign (the day before it was a give way and the had not yet painted the solid line on the ground yet, and the were booking everyone that rolled through it, was a revenue raising annoying thing). then whilst they were processing that one i got done for speeding again. end result i lost my licence for 3 months then had to take 1 point for a year.

as such i became so so careful about respecting road rules that i have not lost a point or gotten a fine since.....untill i moved to Africa, then in my first week of owning my RX8 i got done doing 130 in a 100 zone, i couldnt bribe my way out of that one but i did talk them down to a 100 ZAR fine, so it cost me $11.10AU, i was happy.

and in advance of you all, someone will say, "cool story bro"

At the end of the day, you have asked for advice and opinions and I took the time to give you mine.  You chose not to accept it.

The point really is that you did the wrong thing, you broke the law (altough you didn't think about the fact that you need your job to survive) and now whether you like it or not, responsibility needs to be taken no matter what the consequences are.

We have all made mistakes in life and we have all at some point had to take responsibility, whether we like it or not, that's life.

I drive trucks for a living and see some horrible things on the road every day I drive and the majority of these mistakes comes through carelessness.  I guess you could say that poor driving hits a tender nerve.

There are Citizen Advice Bureau's in each state to help people that can not afford legal assistance, their assistance is free......perhaps that is an option for you.

Either way, lesson learn't??

...how are people posting from the future; oh right! Daylight savings! Duh.

Mami, sorry to hear you're in a pickle at the moment; hope things work out somehow. Just drive carefully and conscientiously/considerately for a year, learn from the whole experience and learn the road rules inside out so you know what the go is, where the radar and others stake out points are in your area/regular routes, main roads, etc and you'll be right.

Jazzy. Why not drive at the speed limit? That way you don't have to look or know where the speed traps are.

Shits me at work listening to people whine about traps and I ask them why they speed. They have no valid answer or response.

I usually do drive at the speed limit and have never received a ticket or lost demerits Cheesy

The comment regarding radars and cameras was more for Mami's benefit - coz if she's on one point and gets done on a downward slope speedo trap for example just cause she's 1-2 Km's over from momentum, or gets stuck in an intersection because other drivers are idiots that'd suck.

The whole 'don't speed and you won't get caught' thing is a fallacy anyway- it assumes cops are infallible which is not true.

I know of at least 3 people in QLD who got falsely fined for speeding when they were not, (I was in the car with one, one took it to court and won because everyone the cop had booked that day got done for exactly the same speed i.e. revenue raising, and another took it to court to say that the cop had targeted the vehicle beside him as it overtook him, but the judge ruled he wasn't allowed to question the officer's method of operating the equipment).
Plus the speed camera near byron bay on the  hill was widely reputed to be faulty, as many people with otherwise spotless driving records (old grannies and such) were getting fined by it, a community group was going to take it to court but I didn't hear what the outcome was.

But yes, if you willingly speed and get caught then you got to cop it on the chin.

You hit someone.  If it wasn't a head on collision, you're at fault, regardless of intent. Accept responsibility for your actions, come to terms with the fact that you did fuck up, cop it on the chin, and get on with life.

According to some research reducing the amount of driver aids on the road eg speed limits, warning signs etc has resulted in a reduction in accidents.

The theory is that people are more alert and cautious when not relying on signs etc. In one case they removed speed limits entirely and the average car when made to make their own decision about the suitable speed for the road traveled slower than what the original speed limit was.
