Cheap household routers are appalling network wise and a lot of telstra supplied ones are locked but the dhcp on my telstra supplied router is sooo bad it's a bit like the homeless guy in the tin foil hat looks human but about as clever as an inbred pidgeon

Lawman, can you do me a favour for testing can you plug just your modem into the pc and do some testing.
Once you plug the modem directly into the pc
Can you do a restart, on completion of restart can you do a ipconfig /all and post
It seems like a classic fault, along the lines of what has been mentioned.

Are you sharing the internet with others in the house?
What is the brand of the wireless router?

Simple q - what's / is there an error recorded in the event log to show if this is a pc related issue also. Ie like a DNS error or something in the system.

OK what I was getting at is, because it shows as offline on the PC I was wondering if there is somethign wrong ON the PC that may be killing the connection, therefore if there is somethign wrong, it will write a record in the eventviewer to show you, which thus in turn you can show us here Smiley

That way we could use the error and work towards finding a solution (if there is one)

Syklone, it looks like simply dns issues, re- wireless not talkin to the modem correctly.

I have asked him to seperate the connection issue, by pluggin his computer directly into the modem. If this works then its not the modem nor is it his modem.

But the most common of all problems where DHCP is being issued by 2 devices on the network (modem + Wirelss router).

I need him to do this test so we can move on..

If direct connecting to his pc to the modem does not work, then we look at dns hijack / spyware and the like,

or reconfigure his modem a static address theat can be configured into the wirelss router, and only have DHCP from the wireless router..

but still waiting... :/

Could be a DNS, plus no harm in looking in the event log as thats a normal first port of call for tech support.
