Hya guys,

Thought i'd write up a quick intro guide in Arma..so that you can overcome the noobishness that comes with this game.

With Arma..if you dont know what to do..you'll join a MP server and go..umm wtf do I do.

So here's what to do and in what order -

*When you click on multiplayer, it brings up the server list and will show ALOT of servers...click ping in the top right and this will sort by ping...try and avoid internode at the moment...VERY laggy.

* First of all be aware that Arma has heaps of different "modes" or "Missions" so we'll go thru the most common ones, also you can tell which mode is on what server when you bring up the list

Evolution - Evolution is a "ranked" game mode - so you cant fly a chopper or even drive a jeep until you've attained the right rank - you gain rank by killing bad guys and completing objectives, such as destroy a radio tower...liberate a town etc. Once youve attained the rank it will bring up on screen that youve been promoted and you can go from there. Note : All ranks reset after you leave the server..they are NOT a permanent rank.

Domination East/West - Domination means you will get a series of towns and side missions to attack, similar to Evolutio, but it is "unranked" so anyone can just jump in any vehicle and drive/fly it. The East/West part is simply what army you play as - West is U.S. and East are the russians or whatever they are supposed to be.

Warfare - Is a game mode where each time you kill an enemy or complete an objective you get money for it..which can then be used to buy better gear and squad members...in effect you can create your own personal mercenary army....watch the tutorials on youtube to learn the specifics..theyre really helpfull.

*Now that youve found a game mode and server you like and connected to it...you'll be brought to a screen with ok in the bottom right hand corner..dont click it yet

In the centre of the screen in white writing you'll note squads and kit selections - Dont stress too much as every kit is customizable i.e. can pick sniper rifles as a medic...BUT every kit has abilities...heres a brief description of the 3 main kits.

Corpsman - is the medic and the only one who can heal ppl...very handy kit

Sniper - All he gets thats different is a ghillie/yowie suit and can call in artillery etc..

Engineer - Another very handy kit, can set up MASH field hospitals, call for artillery guns that can be used by players and repair vehicles...even enemy vehicles that can then be used...a good tactic is to blow up a tank with a small AT round..the crew will bail..kill them..run to the tank, repair it and then clear out the town in your shiny new toy.

Note : when joining a server that has friends on it, dont worry about joining their squad...just pick a kit you like and i'll show you how to join their squad in another point.

now that youve picked a kit , click ok, you'll join the game

*Once in game you'll spawn at the main base, very close by will be a compound or a set of crates (look for people kneeling at crates if ya cant find them). This is where you customize your weapon load out.

Go to the crates and either push enter when the symbol appears, G or scroll your mouse wheel until it says "Gear" and hit enter.

You'll be taken to the weapon load out screen

If you dont want the weapon youre holding dbl click it and it will strip it and its ammo from your inventory...get rid of any grenades etc.. as well...you wont use em and the extra ammo slots are better used by other things.

First thing you want to get if possible is a javelin..dbl click it...now look and see if it put a rocket in your ammo slot..if not, dble click the JAV and get rid of it...javelins are the best weapon against tanks etc.. as they lock on and can hit them from a great distance..even behind cover...DO NOT use the javelin if their are trees in the way..the rocket will just hit the branch and explode..move to a better position.

Pick your weapons depending on your preference, only time will allow you to find the combo you like.

Satchel charges are a must if you will actually assault the objective as they take down building, radio towers etc... Note : Radio towers (which can be found on the map) allow the enemy to call in reinforcements, which can result in a stalemate..take the tower down and it makes life alot easier.

*Now that your weapon load out is done you need to get to the battle - Open up your map, scroll around and find the town with the large red circle covering it..this is your main objective

Look on the map around the town and see if there is a yellow box with a small number in yellow next to it anywhere near the town...if there is this is the MHQ and you can teleport their..if there isnt you'll need to bring a MHQ by chopper to the objective. Note: Dont try and put the MHQ in the objective...look at the terrain on the map...dbl click a high point thats near the red circle..this will put a marker on the map and will be your LZ.

Go to a chopper..jump in, locate the MHQ (looks like an apc)..when you fly over a vehicle a blue box appears in the centre of the screen with the vehicle in it..find the one that says HQ and hit enter when its in the blue box to pick it up.

Fly to the LZ and scroll youre mouse wheel until its on release vehicle and drop the MHQ...fly the chopper back to base and land.

Note : In Arma you DO NOT fly into combat via choppers...it is very noobish and the admins and old hands get shitty and kick if people fly in choppers, doing nothing..want to fly?..do the training and fly as much as you want..DONT do it in game.

*Now that the MHQ is in place..or if it already was..you need to go and kill things right?..heres how
Go to the flagpole...near the crates where you get weapons from...an option to teleport will appear..it will come up with options on the right respawn one/two. click them to move to that MHQ and have fun.

*How to join a squad?

Scroll the mouse wheel onto show status, then team settings. It will bring up a list of ppl...find the squad you want to join and click join group on the right hand side of the screen

*Hints and Tips

Scroll the mouse wheel onto show status, click settings and adjust your view distance to 3000..that way you'll see the enemy from further away.

One of the other menus in this screen will allow you to show player tags, click on show names...now when you use your GPS or open your map..players names will show...which allows you to find your squad members and identify friendlies quickly and easily.
