That ending makes a lot more sense than the one used. That ending I am sure was the original ending as it fitted with the rest of the movies setup better, like Will Smith stating they had no intelligence, then that guy trying hard to get her back when he first caught her, then the diseased dude catching him in a snare and releasing dogs, then the main diseased dude leading the attack at the car on the docks and at the house.  All leading to Will Smiths character realising they still had intelligence and that they were human still in a way.

The ending used took all that setup out of the movie and made it useless.

I'm with Mone, it does feel like that one was originally intended as the ending.

The producers probably went for the more action packed ending that confirms that America (sorry, humanity) won.

Financially successful movies rarely have an open ending, the masses want to leave feeling warm and fuzzy that the enemy didn't win.

IMO I am Legend was a VERY similar storyline as 28days later. The pommy movie.
Just a modified version of 28days later to fit the US market (ie. mankind "wins").

Sif! 28 Days Later was a much better movie.
I Am Legend was seriously let down by sub-standard CGI. I can live with crap graphics in a movie, but they used them so much you couldn't ignore it.
Plus i feel the story in 28 Days Later was better, it was more gloomy.

GET OUT!!! 28 days shits all over I am Legend, empty london was scarier than empty new york. Plus the story line, I am legend just kinda felt at the end they had run out of time and needed to wrap it up... bad cgi looks bad.

The book for I am Legend is very good, the end is awesome
Unfortunatly the move shared only the name, and inserted 28 days later story with a twist

Both are movies by number
