Hello you clever people.

I've got a pos Billion 7800NL wireless router and I'm having issues. Every time anyone in my flat uses the internet I get an unplayably bad ping spike in my games (80 ping goes up to 500-1000ms). This also happens if I'm playing a game and someone else fires up another game and starts playing (both of our pings go to shit). I figure this is an issue with my brain-dead router not knowing how to handle multiple connections properly and I'm hoping there is a solution that isn't "buy a less shit router".

I've tried reading the manual, it's here: http://au.billion.com/downloads/usermanual/wireless/BiPAC_7800NL_FM-2.02a.dc1_UM_1.11.pdf
(page 90 for QoS setup) but I'll be buggered if I can figure any of it out.

If anyone can help me to understand what the hell I need to do to stop this from happening I'd really appreciate it.

Turn off the wireless component, unplug every other person off the router.

Problem solved!!!

it looks like it is asking you to make lanes and then specify what is going to get priority over normal traffic. so this means the IP it is coming from and the ports it is using etc...

it almost looks like it is saying it only does it over ethernet not wireless (this is a glance)
if that is the case all you have to do is get a wireless access point and connect that up to your router. turn off the wireless on the router and setup the external access point as your wireless and then you should have QoS over your wireless traffic.

This is all a theory mind you. someone out there would of done a QoS setup guide for your router. found one for mine but mine has a crappy custom firmware on it.

put DD-wrt on it and turn it into a decent router.
