Looking for some recommendations for a good licensed electrician/data cabler in Brisbane to run Cat6 throughout the house back to a central rack. I also want to run the cable modem, TV antenna and telephone line to the rack and then distribute from there. I need some extra power points and ceiling fans installed so I'm after someone who can do the lot rather than having to deal with more trades.

I live in a high set house and unfortunately have nowhere upstairs to put the rack, but do have an enclosed storage room under the house. The room does get dust in it though, so I'm after some suggestions on the most appropriate type of rack. Preference would be for a wall mounted 18RU x 600mm deep 19" rack. Rack will contain the switch, cable modem, router, TV splitter, patch panels, NAS, UPS and possibly a server in the future.

it is actually not that hard to setup as long as you have the cable and the place you want to make the focal point.

Crypto yeah commercial and residential are different. My family are sparkles and all bitch about residential work as shite.

Data cabling is easy to do, just get cable and a few wall plates, krone plugs and the right tools. I have a two story house and did some work and can recommend you will probably need a spider. A long piece of wire, rod, used to push or pull cable and string around. If you're getting really stuck you will need a drill with extended drill bits to get past wooden nogins. If you don't want to drill you can tear a wall down and chisel the wood to run cable through and then plaster board and paint it up.

Or you can get a trade to do the lot. Ask on the classifieds on Facebook for a cashie if you want to save.

Or, go wireless. Our government says its great and we don't need fiber or cat6 or any cable for that matter, just magical wireless points will work.

Your call, I would suggest, go and buy the data yourself and plugs and get a sparkle out and work with them to cut cost and offer cash and a blowjob maybe.

Doesn't HDbaseT just use Cat 5e/6 cables, or does it require Cat 5e/6 cables with larger cores to support the extra power load?

Is HDbaseT necessary, as most stuff runs over ethernet now anyway?

cable size is governed by current not so much power rating, so I would not recommend connecting a normal Ethernet port to the hdbaseT network cause there would have to be a couple of hundred volts floating in there.
Just ring Jim's antennas or some such and get some quotes (antenna does not go via ethernet cable) they should charge per point eg $120.00.

It went well and I'm quite happy with it. I went for a 12RU hined wall mounted rack. Took the photo below shortly after putting all of the equipment in the rack. I've since added a Synology 1513+ NAS drive which sits on top of the UPS.



The company that did everything for me was great. Good communication, turned up on time, used drop mats and cleaned up after themselves.

The only issue I had was with the rack. The rack depth was 60mm shorter than specified on the supplier's website so my equipment only just fit inside and I'm restricted to a maximum equipment depth of 400mm (which leaves a very limited number of options).
