That was their initial aim for the standalone projects. Other maps came second.

Are they changing the engine it runs on? The Arma2 backend is really the limiting factor for DayZ

I was under the impression it will run off the engine Arma 3 will use.

I was under the impression it will run off the engine Arma 3 will use.

It is the VBS 2 engine, the engine running arma 2, but the engine is probably one of the most modifiable and improvable, as rocket and his team have access to the source code, something they didnt have while making dayz mod.

TL;DR = Runs on arma 2 engine, but will look much like arma 3
