MSY was stung by the ACCC a while ago, although not for the reasons I would have thought. They have just recently lost all of their appeals and are stuck with the final ruling.

For lying to customers about the availability of product warranties, the ACCC won a court case resulting in a fine of $203,500 plus all legal fees and court costs being handed down to the company. Given the slim (often nonexistent) margins these people run on, this might cause them a few problems. I just think its a pity they haven't nabbed them for all the other shit they pull as well. Ah well, a victory is still a victory.

they obviously cant be wronging too many customers, otherwise no one would shop there and they'd go out of business....

Its generally not the customers they are wronging mate... Its the independent retailers who cant compete because of their dodgy business practices.

Its similar to how the cabbages you sell at Coles are cheaper than the cabbages that Bizarro-Dex sells at the independent grocer down the street, because Coles can absorb selling certain items at a loss to drive out other competitors.

I know of several people who've tried to get warranty service out of MSY and have had a shit fight.

They're dodgy as hell, people only shop there because they get rock-bottom bargain basement prices.

I've had two out of 2 successful MSy RA's:

1st) Flashed X800 PRO VIVO to XT PE, failed, flashed back and got replaced under warranty from Malvern store.  Replacement flash success for BF1942?DC goodness.
2nd) Antec EarthWatts 380 failed, repaired/replaced from Box Hill store, ~three week turn around

Haven't bought much new lately from MSY, LVC for da win!

Ive had a successful return through them but you have to have a strong approach
tell them its faulty, your in IT and them you have run all the "diagnostics" and tried alternative parts which work

they usually cant say shit back to that

How narrow minded is this comment.... MOST people aren't interested in anything else but $price$.

Those few that aren't worry about price worry about aftersales service, thats how I fit into the industry, by taking pride in what I do.

not to poke the bear too much more but this is what I was referring to about our own demise. People seeking the cheapest dollar but not giving a rats ass about anything else.

Therefore these popup companies fuck the market over, steal a profit, because thats what its almost like and then piss off as they are done and claim RTB for warranty (dont see the business you bought it from).

I recall Sunlit Technologies in BNE did it several times along with Jodie Rich (the fucking retard who created OneTell) who created Tech Pac but ran it into the ground and then sold it off for a profit when in turn the books were cooked (go read Rich Kids for an eye opener)

Anyways....

Its happening every where even our mates at jb-hi fi, dicksmith woolworths etc, they are all hurting.

because they have screwed the competition, and get themselves, stuck when customers exepct the same low prices with now competition...
