Chalice's argument raises this. He is saying that game developers cater to the old technology of consoles. The reason you dont have to upgrade every 2 years is because game developers are not developing games that require it.

If they were to push the limits of todays technology in game development, im sure that consoles wouldnt be able to keep up. but instead they contain themselves and make do with the technology in the consoles

why fight it, consoles aren't giong anywhere, embrace diversity.

This is exactly the issue, too many platforms for developers... so instead of making games to take full advantage of the PC's greater processing power and versatility they make games primarily for console and make a lazy port for PC. This is especially evident in games like Fallout 3 where you can't remap buttons for simple things like flashlight, to a key... instead you have to hold down the inventory button. That makes sense on a console with limited keys on its controller but on a PC its stupid, and would have taken fuck all effort to add for the PC port.

I don't think I need to say too much about dumbing down of games for console... the latest Civilization game was a disappointment because it was basically an updated PC port of 'Civ Revolutions' which was the console version of Civ. The gameplay is simplistic and fairly boring compared to earlier installments. Look at the latest COD game, remember that youtube where the bloke went through the first level without shooting once?
The fact is that games are getting dumber because of console gamers.

And pc gaming newest interface development is....ready for it.



A mouse with more buttons than your game has functions.................?

Console controllers are definitely one of the limiting factors for innovation in gaming. So you can't be too surprised about new developments like Kinect. Stuff like this will soon be coming to PC, but it will never replace keyboard and mouse for shooting games- nothing at the moment comes close to the level of precision and rate of movement that keyboard/mouse can provide. There hasn't been much progress on the old mouse and keyboard because its so good at what it does already.

neither do I.... you can play the latest games on lower detail settings without upgrading. You can stretch it out to 4 years if you wanted to, maybe even more. Many PC gamers are enthusiasts and like to upgrade more regularly, but that's their prerogative and not a necessity.

I built my pc 3 years ago and am yet to find a game I cant play on Ultra settings because of the same prob..yet 7-8 years ago my PC would've been obsolete in months because the games were improving rapidly, thus the attraction to consoles..now, developments stalled due to their influence and this popularity

Agree and I understand..as I said in my last post.  You also dont have to upgrade your PC because game improvement has stalled because of them.

I cant understand how you could possibly defend consoles?  Really dont..its a no brainer really.  Are you REALLY that happy playing games that are effectively 7 years old graphically and with 7 year old physic's and you're actually stating that its great that we aren't seeing games with true to life graphics and effects  or further development in gaming because of it?

The games you're playing maybe great..maybe fun as hell....but they SHOULD be better..support the consoles by all means, but at least push for the next gen and not play on tech thats fast approaching a decade old and again is stalling development and improvement on your beloved consoles as well as PC.

And again as in my last post..we are a PC gaming clan until they close the gap on the interactivity between PC gamers and Console gamers as far as communication and gaming goes.  I DO NOT support people in this clan promoting console gaming as it takes people away from gaming and interacting with US as a clan.  There are plenty of console gaming clans out there to cater for console gamers, we cater to PC gamers until that gap closes.

I'm happy if you guys want to throw up a SCHEDULED monthly XBox night if you like, so you guys can get together and game on that platform?..but for now thats it for the above reason that it takes people off TS, off our forums and not gaming with us.  We need to be doing shit to increase these activities, not decreasing them.

What I'm saying is -

Current console developers aren't pressed to make newer platforms and because of that everyone is still playing games that are effectively 7 yrs old compared to what they could be like...the word is that the next gen consoles will appear in 2015, 10 YEARS after the current one's are released...picture it, thats like us still playing on a Sega master system or Nintendo instead of the XboX 360 dude and people are actually happy and defending that the progress has been stalled!  

The second thing is..we are a PC gaming clan till they close the gap in in the stuff I mentioned above and till they do we dont and cant have console members so we are PC only as such we should not be promoting console gaming as it draws people away from TS, the forums as they are not playing WITH us...we should be encouraging people to be MORE interactive with us..not less.

BUT if you guys want an Xbox night, let me know and we'll set up a SCHEDULED once a month XboX night for you guys if you like?

Better graphics, physics, content, game play, size of game etc. etc.  so this is the pinnacle console for you?  Never want to see a better one able to actually use more/current processing and drawing power?

The only console I have and like, is the PS2.

Why, you might ask? Back then they still made platformers, which naturally go best with a controller (Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, Jak & Daxter, even Ratchet & Clank). Modern consoles have damn near zero platformers nowadays, instead milking the FPS genre that PC's deal with far far far better.

Modern consoles really offer nothing different than a PC except less versatility. Price? Factor in the cost of your TV, it should balance out at least to a decent PC. Can you do work or (easily) surf the net on a console? Nope. Imagine trying to "type" a word document using an Xbox.

At least take the courtesy to read peoples ENTIRE posts before being rude enough to quote me and throw a snide comment in there for no reason as I'm not saying I dont like consoles specifically..I dont like that developers are stalling the progress of game development etc etc.

Well please dont quote me out of everyone else and leave a smart comment like that when i'm allowed my opinion, its an opinion shared by many..including game developers like EA...even with my personal opinion,  I'm ACTUALLY asking you guys if you want a night set up for you to hook up with other clan Xbox owners for a gaming night?  I didn't tuirn around and say "good luck with your toy,  console fag... Chal out" I've been asking in 3 posts now if you guys would like to organize a once a month Xbox night?

I'm also trying to let you guys know that I personally dont think its appropriate to be plugging consoles hard to what at this point in time is still a PC gaming clan as it draws people away from interacting with us...which is cutting our own throats and we SHOULD be doing the opposite. There are plenty of console gaming clans out there for consoles..but that is only MY opinion and i'm not shoving that onto anyone by locking the thread etc.


In fact, i'm doing the opposite and asking if you are IN for an Xbox night set up once a month?  and who else would be keen for that?

At least then the console gaming night can be a PART of the clan and probably a great idea!

Edit - Could even have an in house XboX comp on these nights - Winner of the Halo night as an example. or if its multiplayer see who can beat the shit out of Bageled with a lightsaber night?
