I  read in the paper that the mother of the little kid that got his arse handed to him, feels that Casey should apologise because their family has been victimised as a result of the video going viral (abusive phone calls and emails etc).

I think there is a place for a legal consequences for people that put things onto the internet that have this kind of negative impact.

Bugs bunny got what he deserved when he was body slammed by Casey, totally copped it. But he doesn't deserve what has happened to him after. His face and his name is widley know, his reputation is tarnished for the rest of his life. When he goes to that new school, the kids will recognise him and probably bully him, it is conceivable that in years to come he will apply for a job(s) and the employer will remember his name, and not give him the job. You can say he is a rat and deserves it, but I disagree> The kid got slammed, he got told in no uncertain terms not to mess with Casey, that was justice, the account was settled. The scale of the punishment he is going to suffer for the rest of his life is way out of proportion to what he did.

To me the real villain is the kid holding the camera. The camera kid is just as guilty of bullying as Bugs, but his identity is safe. Then he posts the video online damaging not one but two lives. First he bullys Casey, then he destroys Bugs reputation, and gets away scott free.

Whilst I do understand what you are saying bageled, kids of today have no real fears.... i have had a grade 2 (7 year) pull a knife on my son in art, it was a relief teacher whom did not know the schools policy of reporting, so it went un acted upon as there was no credible proof to the school that the event even occurred and they but it down to hearsay..

The same kids on more than 10 occassions, was involved in fighting with my son, over 5years... the schoool has an active policy to try and curve these events by lunch time dentition, and other small punishements, but before they carry them out a note must be signed by the parent.... i signed acknowledging what my sons involvement was and accepted the forms of punishments just... the kids father never once signed off on it and he never served any punishments, the only justice my son got was that this kids was moved to a new school, as his parents moved....

Kids need to be made aware that their actions have conciquences, and if ratboys, feels hard done by, STIFF SHIT, deal with it, Casey now has his selfesteem back... now has fought the monsters in his everyday life and will shine

I agree with Bohica there. Sure the bully kid's life probably is ruined now, but that really is stiff shit. People need to be prepared to live with the consequences of their actions. It's justice anyway. I've heard that the Casey kid was considering suicide because of all the bullying. I'd much rather the guilty tormentor's life be ruined than the innocent victim.

Bageled does have a point, people in general like to jump on bandwagons and form mobs to enact vigilante justice. This happened recently with a property dispute between two local people, one of them went to today tonight and the segment vilified the other guy even though he had as much of a valid claim as the first guy. He's had to deal with abusive phone calls and letters for a while but it quickly died off. The problem with the internet doing this is the global audience, no longer are you just shunned in your local community, you can become the target of a worldwide mob. I don't approve of this but people, in general, are idiots and you can't do much to stop them. I'll shit out my retarded opinion on an internet forum but I won't do something as stupid as actually trying to contact the guy.

The camera guy was just as stupid as rathead and deserves to be punished too. I'm sure their intention was to record casey getting his arse kicked and put that on youtube, even though the tables turned they put it up anyway.

But I don't necessarily think it will stay with him for the rest of his life... look at corey worthington, the massive party kid, that buzzed for a while and has pretty much died off now. I'm sure in a few years he'll be largely forgotten. The internet, in general, tends to have a pretty short attention span. There's actually been a few kids targeted by 4chan/anonymous in the USA over the last couple of years, for various reasons. It can be pretty devastating for a while but it usually dies down within a couple of months.
I remember star wars kid at the height of his popularity, and I read something about how he was suicidal as a result of the attention he was getting from the video... that was less than 10 years ago (geez doesn't feel like that long ...) and he seems to have done well for himself now.

As for legal recourse, I believe there are laws regarding cyber bullying which would probably cover this sort of thing, but this is a strange case because Casey didn't put the video up - it seems to have been put up by a friend of rathead, presumably with his consent (even if it was given before he got his arse kicked). My general view is that the legal system should interfere in as little as possible because we are rapidly becoming an over-regulated nanny state, and the legal system seems to be run for the benefit of those employed by it rather than the people that actually need legal protection or assistance.

Bohica makes a very valid point though. Kids these days seem to get away with all sorts of shit. When I was a kid, if I fucked up I copped a flogging. I learnt right and wrong pretty damn quickly. If I ever have a kid I'll bloody well hit him if he fucks up because he'll learn about actions and consequences - all these bleeding hearts who say kids shouldn't be spanked can get their guts fucked. Bring back the cane I say. There's big problems with youth crime in our area, because their parents don't give a fuck/are too stoned to care and the cops can't do anything even if they catch them. Basically, these kids need to learn that, if you carry on like a a fuckwit, sometimes bad things happen.

in terms of the legal system:

I'm studying law, and computer crimes are pretty fucking hard to deal with, their just so differant to normal criminal and civil laws that it's in a category of it's own. It's really something else entirely.

There was a report about him, he's differant now, he's a person you could respect. Hell, even he thinks he was a retard back then and wished he didn't do it. He has a job now and he's going rather well.

Tough shit. you should see what he's written on facebook, up until a day or two before he said he was sorry and so on, this kid was acting tough and was totally unapologetic. one thing he wrote on a Casey group was "you guys a retards, it didn't even hurt". My ass it didn't. he's only sorry (maybe) because of the attention it's recieved, if no one found the video this kid wouldn't give a shit.

Camera kid:
It's hard to put legal actions against this kid as chances are he didn't think this would be famous (this is important as it isn't a strict liability crime). you can find tons of videos of schoolyard fights, they aren't hard to find. Besides chances are the vid could've been taken down at some stage and the kid was done with it and someone kept bringing new ones up.

Kid's aren't necessarily fearless, but they certainly deserve a gibbs slap every now and then (I believe in NSW police crush hoons cars after x amount of offences, you see grown men who say they're tough and then fall to the ground crying next to their cube). Somehow I see bad parenting into the picture there, I know if my brother was involved as the same thing as that kid who tried to stab bohica's son I'd be sure you tell him what he did was wrong through the back of my hand. I love my brother, that's why I'd smack him right so he knows he tries it again he's gonna be the sore one. My sister refuses to actually smack her child for doing something wrong and the crazy things wild! the one that has been smacked is far more orderly and acts properly than the other.

btw, legally you may smack a child only with an open palm on the back of the legs or on the buttocks.
