Given the current exchange rate that is pretty much right.

AUD779-73AUD(GST)=AUD726
Current exchange rate is 1AUD to 0.76USD
AUD726 x 0.76 = usd551.76

It is true we are being gouged by USD $1.76........the fiends.

I'm not disputing the Australia Tax, its there, this is just a poor example of it.

The real bullshit is happening behind the scenes, like where the fuck is our GST component going?

Last year Apple turned over 6billion in Australia, but paid out 80 million in tax, that is a tax rate of 1.3%!!!!!!!!!!

GST is 10%, it should have been at least 600million in just GST tax, these fuckers are just straight up taking our money.

Throw in company tax, which is 30%, and there is no doubt that Apple is turning a profit. Their total tax payment(including GST) should be somewhere between 1.2 and 1.5 billion.

Politics aside, our government could do a lot of good with an extra billion in it's pocket.

From memory, isn't Apple routing funds or profits into Ireland as it has better tax breaks, thus avoiding paying other countries their tax ? Thats why everyone gets ripped off ?

^ this is already happening in other industries - Games Workshop (the guys that make Warhammer) are really feeling the sting from 3D printing as people are printing their own miniatures instead of paying for the (insanely overpriced) official ones.
To say nothing of people 3d printing gun parts and building their own weapons.
But yes, I would totally download a car (without paying for it) if I could.
