And by most accounts, combat medicine has responded and evolved, steadily improving the survival chances of those injured on the battlefield. Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have once again proven the adage that necessity breeds invention, and the medical system of the armed forces is saving troops who would otherwise have died.

[The author] Txchnologist wanted to learn the tricks and tools that the military has figured out over the last dozen years to patch people up. We spoke with Col. Lorne Blackbourne, a trauma surgeon and former commander of the U.S. Army Institute of Surgical Research who is the senior editor of the center’s manual “First to Cut: Trauma Lessons Learned in the Combat Zone.”

Those surgeons have some amazing skills. It must be a pretty harrowing experience to work on a guy and use up so much time and resources only to find that he bled out from wounds you thought you had fixed up. It's true though that war allows medical science to make leaps and bounds the question remains, is it worth it?

imho yes its worth it, humanity needs to be culled from time to time. I know its harsh or wrong to some people but it needs to be done there are too many of us. Its no different than an animal cull, roos get out of hand in an area so we thin their numbers out a bit (not completely annihilate them)... ohh ive strayed from the topic soooo...

War has its benefits, the long term positives outweigh the long term negatives.

I agree with some of your sentiments there Sycotic, except that modern warfare is just a way for rich people with investments in weapons companies to get richer.
