Hey, a mate of mine is after a new computer and as I havent kept up to date on hardware Im after opinions.

I would ordinarily go through bohica and get him to build it all and whatever, but this friend has just come out of a serious burns accident and is after some project to keep his mind of physio and all the other shit he has to go through, so we were going to build the computer together.

From what I understand, he is after everything (tower, monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers, headphones, windows 7 etc)

I would like to give him a couple of options as far as price goes, i.e. $1500, and $2000 as I think that is around about his budget.
I dont think he plays a lot of games other than minecraft, but im after the best I can get for the two prices above.

Thanks guys Smiley

That is the problem with getting stuff from over east.
I think he wants to be able to go into a shop and buy the stuff rather than just have it sent over...

Would still very much appreciate a list of parts Cheesy

Dont think of it as doing it for me, but rather a dude with burns to 40% of his body who cant bend his arm or hold a fork properly...

i want to troll but i would feel bad because of the burns etc

but seriously does he want

- intel or amd?
- mini; mid or full tower
- nvidia or AMD?
- SLI or Crossfire
- SSD and a HDD (how much space etc)

these are some questions i would ask him about his wants and needs, like if he wants heaps of TV shows i would go for a full tower and heaps of HDD space.

I know there is a budget but he has to give you some direction on what to look at for a rig.....

sorry if i come across picky but it is something that i have found very useful when suggesting parts etc for friends

not being harsh, but with the issues that he does have, just walk into 3 retail stores and ask them dex.

if he cant hold a fork.... or bend his arm... building a pc is not lego... nor should it be done by amatures.

The building is not a problem. I will be doing that presumably. Otherwise we will be paying the computer store to do it. What I dont want is to just walk in and buy a computer. The dude is bored and needs a project.

As for your questions alucard,
Intel
Nvidia
No crossfire or sli
Probably one ssd at most and
Case size is neither here nor there... I can pick a case with him I just need recommendations on the main parts

lol +1 just the right amount of poor taste....

Dex, look at a intel 2500k cpu, a suitable motherboard (socket 1155, but you wont need the latest chipset),  ssd (corsair have a nice budget range that have a reasonable reliability rep), normal hd, 8 gig of ram and something like an nvidia 570......will discuss on ts

the only thing some reseach is required for is the grphx card... just looking, the 570 might not be best bang for buck at moment... will research more
