CRT gives a really good image though, cost me $2,500 (http://www.eizo.com.au/products/coloredge/index.php) to get a flat screen that could do the same job as $75 second hand crt. The colour shift across a standard flat panel is dramatic. It's fine for most things, but doing graphic design on a standard flat screen is near impossible. A solid red square will be orange at the top and a deep red at the bottom.

http://www.computer-recycling.com.au/about.php big monitors like that probably won't be reused, unfortunately - most likely the metals will be reclaimed from them. you aren't supposed to just dump them in the rubbish though because they're full of lead and other nasties.
