You guys may remember this old thread I started.

It's one I have gone back to often to check names of books recommended by you lot.

SO I decided to start a new one with a more meaningful title.

If you want to recommend a book or book series, please do so here.

isnt 1984 about a world kinda like Big Brother?

there's some crazy ass books out there, im talking to you damit (if your the one who had the dragon sex toy thing)

My suggestion may seem strange but the best book i have ever read the Koran, all hail sallah mua-klackdidal!. jokes.

My real suggestion is a book called "white dogs can't jump" it's about a bulldog that can't get in a car because he is too small and so they find wierd ways to get him inside, it has a beautiful ending.

yes, it is a "childrens" book, but still a timeless classic, a must read, forgot who by, but published by Angus and Robertson so you might find it there

Are you referring to this:

Nineteen Eighty-Four will not enter the US public domain until 2044,[13] and in the European Union until 2020, although it is in the public domain in Canada,[14] Russia,[15] and Australia.[16]

from wankerpedia

I do not think "public domain" means what you think it means.
They are referring to the copyright on the book expiring. The book is available for sale in US and europe and millions of people from those countries have read it.

As for the classics, Verne and Wells, the only one I really liked was the Invisible Man, Brave New World is good, I think Soma is a great idea. We have so many problems with alcohol as our legal intoxicant, I think we should manufacture the 'perfect' drug. Non addictive, no hang over, encourage happy loving feelings and not stupidity and violence, and doesn't damage our internal organs.

Don't the rest of it's effects (or lack thereof) make it addictive anyway? Even if the drug itself isn't addictive, surely people will want to maintain "happy loving feelings"..

i have to agree with carpels, Patrick O'Brien is fantastic. i have and have read every book in the Aubrey-Maturin series, as well as the appendices and poetic discourses and the supplementary readings.

fantastic it took me over three years to read them all.
