Some backstory for this one.
the San Diego Comic Con was on recently- basically people who love comic books, anime, manga, movies/TV shows, all meet up for a few days. There is merchandise and speeches and so forth, a chance to meet the creators of many popular series, and many people who attend dress up as their favourite characters.
The
Westboro Baptist Church got wind of this and decided to picket the convention. This is what they had to say about it:
Are you kidding?! If these people would spend even some of the energy that they spend on these comic books, reading the Bible, well no high hopes here. They have turned comic book characters into idols, and worship them they do! Isaiah 2:8 Their land also is full of idols; they worship the work of their own hands, that which their own fingers have made: 9 And the mean man boweth down, and the great man humbleth himself: therefore forgive them not. It is time to put away the silly vanities and turn to God like you mean it. The destruction of this nation is imminent — so start calling on Batman and Superman now, see if they can pull you from the mess that you have created with all your silly idolatry.
These guys picket the funerals of soldiers who died in action, so they are basically idiots. Most people of sound mind don't think much of these guys. 'God Hates Fags' is basically their slogan. They are not nice people.
Anyway, the Comic Con attendess found out that they were going to be picketed by the WBC so they organised their own counter-protest, in full view of the WBC picket line:
