^This is actually pretty common with older game installers, simply because they were written for 32-bit systems, which can only address 4GB of memory. Their memory checking routine barfs if you have more than 4GB free because in its eyes such a thing is inconceivable.
You can get a similiar problem with even older game installers if you have more than 2GB of free hard disk space, for two reasons: before LBA came in there was a limit of 1024 cylinders on a hard drive (look up CHS addressing for more info) which meant a limit of 2GB of space, and also because the FAT16 file system had a maximum partition size of 2GB. Their disk space checking routines used at the time couldn't understand larger hard disk sizes.
Heroes 3 is an awesome game by the way

2 was pretty good for its time, 4 sucked, 5 was quite good, felt a lot like a 3d version of 3 but number 3 is still probably the best imho.
