Howdy Guys,

Wondering if anyone knows or could recommend a good Mail system for a Office Network.
- Currently office is running on Mac (OS X 10.8.4) computers using the default Mail that comes with Mac's.
- The admin accesses the emails through an IMAP Mail (via Gmail).

If possible we would like to be able to set privileges on the Mail system so certain staff have different access levels.
- Admin > All Levels.
- Mid Level > Read, Write, Move, Create emails & email folders.
- Bottom Level > Read and Write Emails only.

Any advice/help would be great cheers.

sounds like you want to setup an exchange service.. the mac equivalent is the use of imap but i dont now if there are permissions like that available. i know those types of options are available in exchange but you would have everyone on the mid lvl mainly with people accessing other mailboxes with the bottom lvl. the admins would only elevate from the mid tier to admin when configuring and troubleshooting etc.
so you would be after something like office on the mac.
if it is an all mac environment it may be wise looking at the OSX server and the tools it has. it may have something like that in there to use with mac mail.

Look at Office365, it should do everything you want, without having to run and manage your own exchange server.

I'd also suggest Google Apps for Business which is a bit cheaper but I don't know if it allows you to set such granular permissions.

I'd second Donut's suggestion of Office 365... its an Exchange backend, and with Office 2016 for Mac you get an excellent experience with it... but it will also work great with the inbuilt OS X Mail client etc.  Though you may want to look at going to the latest version of OS X for the best experience there.

I would say go Google apps for business and stop using a local mail client instead just use the web app, you remove the trouble of downloading emails to local clients and ensuring they are all insync.

Maybe this type of collaborative inbox is what you are after https://support.google.com/a/answer/167430?hl=en

If you would prefer try and describe what it is you are trying to achieve with the shared mailbox as there maybe other alternatives that will work better, that we can help flesh out.  A few of us work in IT and have many years of experience in this sort of stuff.

Slow to enter into this chat, but I will like to say its all pretty clear to go 365 route. We are slowing rolling it out across the globe here and would agree its a good experience. And yes, ensure macs are on the latest OS.
