Does anyone use Gmail to host their business emails?

I have been using it for maybe a year now, and mostly happy with it. I keep having issues with the contacts syncing between Outlook 2010, Gmail, and android phone.

Anyone got tips or experience with this?

i know from when i was using gmail imap config in outlook 2010 it did not always play nice with the syncing. outlook config from what i remember likes exchange and pop (man pop is old) more so than imap... that is assuming that gmail business uses imap still and not some form of exchange..

i know android is dropping some features from its exchange support but that is another matter.... do you have to use outlook??? i would suggest to use thunderbird but i dont want to complicate things for you...

in short don't know
i know abba was assisting the company he works for to a transition to Google business

Hi Bageled, I use it for my business email but don't have it synced to outlook, and persoanlly I think syncing gmail to outlook is like dating Alyssa Milano and asking her to wear a Susan Boyle suit, it just doesn't make sense.

Maybe if you describe what functionality you like to use outlook for and we can maybe help you make the transition to proper gmail

I dunno, I've just always used outlook. TBH I never even considered using another mail server. Emails come in and go out, I don't see what features I'm missing out on.
I have just started using Microsoft Business Contact Manager which is in Outlook, but not part of it, so there's nothing keeping me in Outlook. Does Google have a CRM program?

This problem continues to drive me up the fucking wall. For some reason it duplicated one of my contacts maybe 40 times, maybe more, one whole screen of the same contact. I feel like I'm at war with the contacts. It mostly shits me when I'm using my phone beacuse it is all synced, I hve to scroll through so many names.
Whats Thunderbird? Is that any good?
I need to change something.

Bageled, you don't need a mail client with gmail just use the web client. go to gmail.com and login and start using it.  It is not a new server it is what you already have.

Plugging an external mail client into gmail is a little 1990's

Take a look at this video for suggestions on using gmail as your crm

FFFFFFFFFFFFFAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR RKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I open my contacts this morning. It has duplicated one of the contacts maybe 10,000 times, and to be honest I think I'm understating it. I counted to 500 and the scroll bar hadn't moved.

Web client huh, I'll give it go, though in heart it will always be the 1990's.
I'll check out streak Mone, thanks.

So Mone just the webmail client?
I gave it a go today and wasn't impressed. It lacks some basic features like changing column width and how emails are displayed. I work with folders in outlook a lot and I couldn't figure out how to adjust the folder column width so I could read the whole word. I also like to be able to see my inbox and have a message open at the same time. Gmail seems to only let you have one or the other. They seem like pretty basic features to me, am I missing something?

Hi Bageled it is very powerful you just need to configure and add any addons you want to enhance it to what you want.

Here is how to add a reading pane http://gmailblog.blogspot.com.au/2011/08/new-in-labs-preview-pane.html

And here is how to move the size of the folder/label column http://www.codecouch.com/2013/04/resizing-the-left-hand-labels-column-in-gmail-an-update-to-save-the-column-width

It requires a few steps but this page has very detailed descriptions.

If you look at the CMS links I add you can extend it to be even more powerful

Also bageled, google search is your friend for this sort of stuff, if you want to do something and don't know how just search for it.

I use both and gmail is a much better webmail based system.  It is infinitely more flexible with the ability add add ons. It's mobile client and app support is also way better, outlooks iOs app is like swimming through a sewer with your mouth open.

wtf
I don't even know where to start with that. It is way above my pay grade.
If I could make head or tails of it, I'd give it a swing, but I can't.

I had a look at Streak, looks pretty cool, but doesn't have the features I need. Apparently they are in the development pipeline, whatever that means. So I'll just struggle on with Microsoft Outlook. If streak comes through with the features I queried I'll probably make the effort to get gmail working.
I think I have identified the problem with the duplicating contacts, namely Microsoft Business Contact Manger. Possibly the worst CRM I have looked at. It was spectacularly bad.
