Author Topic: IT Jobs in Brisbane? Sysadmin  (Read 5394 times)

Hey guys,

company I'm working for gave me a phone call this arvo.  They're shutting their doors on monday it looks like, unless some miracle happens.

So, after 6 years, I'm now looking for work.

Currently a sysadmin for a mining/drilling company.  Work with everything from WinServ, to Linux, to Raspberry Pi.

I'm pretty desparate to get my hands on anything in the Brisbane area.

I can flick a CV someones way, or post up a verbose list of skills if anyone can help.

I've already PM'ed Mone with a "help me Obewan Kemone, you're my only hope" but I'd happily take all offers.

Love, luck and lollipops.

Fez.

Thanks anyway Psycho.  Smiley

Fez - I know there are some FIFO jobs for the LNG groups in IT. When a downsize occured in BNE some of the guys jumped from SYS Admin to IT Field (Probably cause it paid more but was still a job). You interested in that stuff?

Sucks man, brisbane is a bad place to be looking for IT work at the moment. can do campbell fired most of QLD govt's IT staff, plus the recession has killed a lot of small businesses so the market is flooded with IT guys. I hear a lot of qualified engineers are taking up IT roles as well as they have suitable experience for most IT work in addition to their main engineering skillset.

I was looking for a job at the end of last year and apart from a few interviews I didn't get anywhere. Now I'm going on holiday but when I get back I'm going to be looking again.

approach Hays or PRA about a job at Stadiums QLD,   its a "infrastructure officer" role for a govt dept and includes desktop support through to sys/network admin tasks (windows based)
Im finishing up tomorrow and they have a role to fill,  probably paying 35-50 /h depending on experience.

i dont have link for the role soz.

It's no so bad dude, you can see that even Anglomanii has successfully rebounded from a layoff and is back on his feet after a career change:

I'll have a job going as of Monday, if you/anyone you know has got experience with Sharepoint, MS Dynamics CRM, Lync 2013 (or 2010) and a desire to sit in a chair that Damit has occupied... STD tests not included.

Seriously though, more details to come.

Thanks Virgil.  Doesn't look like my area of expertise, but its worth a look at.  BTW, Abaddonz, found your job on seek and applied, amongst a few others.

IT is like that mate - some say the market is saturated with lazy inexperienced plebs. Can-do Campbell has fired 2000 odd IT staff so they're looking for work, plus heaps of companies are outsourcing IT work to India. Basically the job market is saturated with workers and the employers can get a bargain.

To be fair that job doesn't explicitly ask for any qualifications, all they want is experience with sharepoint, dynamics and Lync. I've been working in IT for 10 years or so and haven't touched any of that. Most IT qualifications are kind of shit anyway, its too easy for someone to cram and pass the exam yet still have no idea how to do their job. I've seen a few guys with degrees in IT who don't know their arsehole from their elbow. Nothing beats hard experience.

I don't set the salary... the position was evaluated by a panel and deemed to be at the AO4 level for responsibility, duties etc... hence the AO4 salary range...

However, the "average" money hasn't stopped anyone from applying it would seem... one week into the two week advertising period, more than 70 applications so far... a cursory look through them weeds out about 50 who don't meet the criteria, didn't include KSC statement, can't write worth a damn or have a one page resume with "fixed computers for mum and dad's small business"... *sighs*

The other 20 odd though are worth a look... a couple of familiar names too Smiley Mix of experience levels, qualifications etc, but most 10+ years, TAFE & Industry Certs, a couple with Bachelor Degrees...

Be interested to see what the second week nets...
