Yeah made use of the mech love no war sale. Finally got my hunchbacks to elite level.

new patch means you have to get all four elites before you get 2x benefits for basic.  Also, Fast Fire and PinPOint have swapped

I assume if you already have unlocked elite you dont loose it and have to gain it again?

Don't lose it. Before patch the 2x shows up after basic was completed for 3 variants.
