Dear Chalice,

I will be going for my P's soon and need to get myself a car. I've saved up about 9 grand which is my ceiling price. I'm looking for something that wont break down every 10 minutes and that will be relatively cheap to repair if it does. I've been thinking of something along the lines of a used focus or mazda 3 or something, but I don't know much about cars. Any advice?

Regards,
Dirty

its practical (plenty of room), and made of plastic, so cheap to repair.. plus, when buying replacement tires you will only need to buy 3. 1 owner only, who lived at Nelson Mandela house.. so practically royalty...

Top Gear reviewed those and had a lot to say about them Smiley

Harry go with what feels right for you , but be aware that buying a second hand car that you may have some probs and your probly better off buying something that one of your friends or relative has and you know that the monkey under the bonnet hasn't been flogged to the shit house or if you can get something around the 2000 up year model that your hippy wit than go for it .  Grin  PDT_Armataz_01_34

Don't Ask Chalice. He has terrible taste in cars. You'll come out of this with a pink vespa and a crevat or something even less manly if you let him have his way with you again. It'll be Canberra Airport all over again...

Well Harry...I'm glad you asked!

I think you're thinking a little too traditional here, i'd much prefer for you to think outside of the box.

For your consideration the below - Features include, low emissions, easy to clean and maintain..well, you'll see

Serious note...cant pass up a toyota, one of the most reliable vehicles on the road.  Ignore the one's made during the tsunami and post it mind you, they'll be fucked..but yarp...toyota.  There are a couple of corolla's (sedans) with low km's in that price range on carsales.

Steer clear of Mazda, everything will fade and loosen up = rattles.  same with mitsubishi, Honda and nissan are good though.

You want something common as dog shit so that if something goes you can get a reco or find parts easily. I'm down there on Friday, get some choices saved and i'll take a look with you but keep in mind, even a 2004 model is now 9 years old...

It will be a personal choice for you though my man...I fukin HATED peugots....would never have considered one, neither would Sammy...till we seen & drove mine = logic out the window but no regrets, you need to add on another $70k to get a car that matches it  Smiley

p.s. STFU ZOO Kiss

My 2005 Corolla still runs great. I second the Corolla suggestion. Being a ridiculously common car servicing and parts aren't expensive, and you'd easily be able to pickup good quality second hand parts from a wrecker.

Yep, Toyota ftw. The Yaris is a good little car, a little more polished than the Corolla.
