they're called bumpers.

To deactivate the bumpers you have to create the directories for this path:
...\MechWarrior Online\Game\Libs\UI\FrontEnd\Bumpers\

(I had to create the directories from Libs onwards.)

Open notepad, and create a text file named "Bumpers.xml" and put this in it:

Personally I made the file and put the bumpers tags in first, saved, THEN renamed the extension, just to be safe.

This works like a charm.  Now when you fire up MWO, you'll go straight
to the login screen.  Fuck hitting Spacebar 5 times.
