Tech Question for Monday

Guys, I have internet at my place but have a new found issue. I had a PCI wireless card die, no issue there I just bought a new one along with a new router to improve the house hold. I decided I would make everything PC related run on the 'N' network instead of B or G (iPhones are different).

To my satisfaction, household was running great, laptop was smooth, two iPhones ran great, coverage was 'da pony bomb' but my home pc and office is erratic with a ping from the pc to the router fluctuating from 800ms to 3000ms.

I have done some testing and found that it isn’t the router or the new PCI card but in fact the office room itself. It has a weather proof aluminium foil insulation in the walls around the outside of the house, through the roof AND the two inside walls. Therefore the only way for the signal to get into the room without being fucked up is to do a LOS setup (through the doorway) which is next to fucking impossible or put the wireless router in the same room but thats fucked as there is no phone line and the signal then is distorted trying to get out of the room.

I have the following; DLink-DSL2730B Router and a Wireless N 150 DWA-525 - am contemplating changing it to 300 N's and get an antenna for the PC to put closer to the doorway to receive better.

Anyone have any ideas on if this is more feasible or if I should just do something different, run fibre optic through the house and buy a pony, cause I am stumped a bit.

Cheers

personally i would only use wireless n in the 5ghz range.
So look for a dualband and dual radio.

I had no end of trouble using wireless N that pumps it out over 3 channels of 2.4ghz(N150)

Yerp - would love to wire the house up but do not have the funds to punch any more holes in walls and run cables around. Plus to do the office would require either punching a whole through a concrete floor (under ground) or some how going up, over n around the walls and concrete/brick walls. Hence the need for a wireless solution.

I was reading and thinking of swapping what I have with;

- DLink Wireless N Dual Band N300+ Router (DIR-815) and adding a 5db or a 7db antenna to the back of the Wireless N150 NIC on the PC

OR

- buy a DWA-547 RangeBooster N™ 650 PCI Adapter 0r DWA-556 Xtreme N™ PCI Express Adapter to go wit hthe DIR-815.

Am very unsure of myself and am pressed more for time (which sucks)

Any tips please will be welcome.
