Oh God..here we go again.

There's talk ..again..of women becoming infantry soldiers..even SAS.

I've just written to MP's basically asking if they are total fucking idiots or what?

I'm all for equal opportunity and am proud of how well men & women work alongside one another in Australia...but these guys are in fucking fantasy land!!

For those who haven't heard this, when I was Inf my company were assigned to play enemy on a platoon of women as a part of trialling women as inf and whilst physically and mentally capable its just plain unrealistic.

1. Its hard enough for the Australian people to see their fit young men die in combat, how much more so if they see their young women?  If a male gets captured and subjected to interogation methods etc. its hard, imagine what could and WOULD happen to a young woman?

2. once you have settled out bush you cant really smell your fellow soldiers, males can barely detect another males "scent" , on this exercise we had no idea the location of the women and caught a horrid smell, we actually thought something had died..it was the female camp.  30 unwashed female bodies with no amenities or neccessaries, like tampons (some had menstrual blood on them and their pants for weeks as tampons and showers weren't allowed..just like us male grunts)..they were EASILY detectable by nose and we actually tracked in on this camp by following our noses and when we lost the smell, we tracked backwards, picked it up again and came on them.  In operation this would put a patrol in danger.

3.If a woman has her period, she gets cramps and is in pain and BLEEDS (tracker dogs will love this idea)...it is NOT viable on operations of an infantry type nature to be on medication to relieve cramping or to dispose of tampons (easily tracked by dogs due to blood, signs of burying the tampon etc), its unrealistic to  fly extra tampons in for her in the middle of a patrol, there's not enough room as is for all the equipment we need...so are her fellow soldiers expected to carry some of her load in order to fit them? Because that will not go down well.

4 Most of these countries we find ourselves operating in now days find it offensive to see a woman with her head and face bared, let alone one armed...it WILL excite and anger the locals, probably to dangerous levels at a minimum it will lose what respect we have garnished from them.

5. You think the ADFA guys are bad?  Try throwing a female in with the hardest bunch of blokes in the entire defense force/country/world, not a bunch of students.

Sooo many more examples, this is just a pure case of tax payers paying for fucking monkeys that clearly dont think shit thru

I pretty much agree there. Equal opportunity is good and all, but not everybody is equal in all ways, and as you pointed out, it could easily be detrimental and a liability to any mission and those on it.

However if technology is developed to fix it up, then sure. (But that won't be for years at least, right?)

Biggest knee-jerk reaction i have witness from the government.
This time both knees have gone, smaked them fair in the nose, and rattled that tiny little peanut they like to call a brain.
And now they have mistaken that rattle as the sounding of a few good ideas.

(I know this is going "upset" some people but.......)

No offense to women, but it just isn't going to work. Not only becuase of what Chal has outlined, but going buy stories from ex-inf about what they have witnessed, i beleive women aren't wired correctly to deal with the emotional stress.

Dont know what technology will become available to change their scent and stop their menstrual cycle...but if that happened and IF they were physically able to do the job and mentally able to cope with seeing what you see in combat, they'll have my backing 100% ..the boys will still try and have a field day with the women, the lads are nice and professional to service women , dont get me wrong..they respect them and have zero issue with em but when they are on their turf and living alongside them as warriors thinking they're as good as the blokes,  surely they cant expect them to turn around and offer her a nice cup of tea and be all courteous and shit...they're grunts ffs?   Grunts fight.  Another factor is the bond diggers develop, throwing a female into the mix is going to fuck with the "mate" factor.

....but if they can handle the sick banter thatthe lads have, teh shit stirring and the above stuff, they'll have my support.

Till then these pencil pushing morons are going to cause any woman thinking to be a grunt a lot anguish and endanger lives both male and female if they go into combat.

I think Chalice may have just mention the real potential issue. If they go through with it, chances are they'll set lower standards for front-line women, which will only make the squad social issues worse. Knowing someone only passed because they've got tits isn't going to make things smooth...

Chal's comments about the stronger odor of unwashed women would surely rule them out of the SAS. I mean it's one thing to be patrolling a street in a jeep, another to be so deep behind enemy lines the yanks are trying to kill you.

lol Slash ...and its not that we smell the "fresh blood"..its how bad it stinks with a platoon full after 2 weeks of being in their groin and in their pants etc.  Undecided

Also agree Zoo, Its the kind of job where you cant afford to set a lower standard, it can get people killed.  As Grunts you rarely patrol in a jeep (mainly on foot) and you have to be trained in multiple tasks and areas of operation Jungle/desert etc. So we cant just say "right you're ok for afghanistan" but we cant use you for malaysia, sit this one out.

In a bush/jungle environment where concealment is a major factor, they're useless.

In afghanistan and muslim countries, their bared heads are insulting etc.

Will they have the physical strength to restrain a man flipping out if needed?  Do they have the aggression level of a male in order to fire to kill without hesitating?  Will they have the physical strength to pull their own weight in the ridiculous amounts of physical activity involved in the job (trench digging, carrying sand bags, cleaning up after cyclones and floods hit QLD etc.) ..they may be able to hump a pack with the best of em..but can they do the rest?

This chick may be able to

They need to think about these things and they're not really thinking at all which is whats got my back up. ..I mean they're not even thinking about the fact that women get their period and what happens if your on foot patrol in Oruzgan Province and it starts, she has no tampons and is bleeding..what the fuck do we do then ffs..turn around?

stupid ill thought idea...they claim to want whats best for women?  then why the hell would they want to subject them to a firefight and seeing the shit you do in combat?  let alone endangering our men in the process...fukin tools.

A 'new' birth control pill was released about 5 years ago that increases the menstrual cycle to every 3 months rather than every month.

Isreal don't send their women to war though? Shooting the shit out of civilians with tanks hardly counts.

bullshit. not all women are the same. (chalice makes fair points that i respect though)

also bageled, that article about the new pill makes little sense as, with a doctors permission women can regulate their periods to once every three months on any brand of pill. its technically better to do that as, biologically we're meant to be pregnant something like 12 times in our life time and therefore have far less.. blood.

Bageled, thats a female russian "sniper" and the Isreali women are more of a "civil patrol" or border patrol thats what their battalion is tasked to do ...I'm talking about actual infantry and SAS work.  The Isreali defence force has 88% of jobs available to women..we are already at 96% and even if its a 3 month menstrual cycle my point is identical do you think they should go "nope cant send platoon A out because 3 of them have their period" and again what happens if mid patrol/mid jungle it starts? ..its just not viable.  You still cant erase the "scent" problem as well..which is fact, in vietnam SAS units used to eat vietnamese food in order to smell like them as the Vietcong could smell us...cant expect women to eat "men" Smiley

As a sniper you very rarely see the gruesome nature of war close up ..as in standing over the top, what you're saying about killer instinct is correct too , otherwise you wouldn't have female murderers.  I have zero doubt and full confidence that a woman could make a decent sniper in an urban environment, because they often work from obscure places and dont see public exposure on patrols..so they wouldn't anger the rag heads....out jungle though, you have the same scent and sanitary problem I've described, what happens if they're in a fixed position as a sniper and it starts?  lay there in pain, bleeding?..so again its a case of not being able to be deployed on a multi role basis which is useless.

My points though are operating as an infantry or SAS patrol and the problem of working as a mixed platoon in REAL infantry work, I have no problem with them being fighter pilots,  my only concern there is again if their shot down and captured what they will go thru by their capturers..but this is a rare event.  Same goes for Artillery, Armoured etc. in those positions their physical make up has zero impact..as a grunt it does as your job is to "seek out and close with the enemy", so no prob with frontline, big prob with Inf and SAS as its just not viable.

I also see Noraa's and Starbucks point...and its really a case by case thing and its the same with blokes - nobody is happy to shoot a 10 year old holding an AK47 or can see headless and burnt babies..which is also my point, why expose women to this and danger simply for the sake of it?

This isn't a sexist thing or me just digging my heels in for nothing, i've done the job and i've been in an exercise to test this very thing, its not my opinion..its OUR findings..its downright dangerous and they really need to sit down and think of this more.

the russians had a "womens battalion of death" during the november revolution. they were in place to guard the winter palace, but when a single BLANK was fired from the battleship arora, the whole lot of them were reduced to hysterics and had to be escorted to the back of the palace and calmed down.

Quote
Smith said this could change after the defence force announced a series of reviews into the treatment of women sparked by a sex scandal involving a young female cadet at Australia's elite military academy.

http://www.google.com/hostednews/afp/article/ALeqM5hC8ff5iIaHL9k61FpjI5BtQtBMmQ?docId=CNG.8fcda49acdd6feab37caa2b17f3b1a60.811

media beat up, total beat up, it isn't said anywhere that women will be in the sas, there are lots of 'maybes' and 'mights' and 'after a review of teh treatment of women'. A review of the treatment of women, not the deployment of women in the armed forces. Media beat up.
