Before computers made specials effects boring and it took ingenuity to make them.

this is cool. I much prefer old style special effects using prosthetics or models, rather than CGI. Sometimes it looks corny but that's part of the charm CGI makes things look too shiny and perfect, but the flaws in hand-made special effects are what give it character.

Look at the original, unmodified star wars trilogy with models of space ships and puppets, compared to all the CGI in the new trilogy. Yoda in particular just doesn't look right in the new ones.
