Chalice and myself got into a 'heated' debate over which city is better, the Gold Coast or Sydney. Eventually I conceded that in fact the Gold Coast is better than Sydney. So in everyones opinion:

What is the best city in Australia and/or New Zealand and why?

Gold Coast is full of fuckwith muppets in Skylines and lowered Lancers all trying to be cool and pick up skanky tennie bopper chicks.

Sorry if I offended but to me thats all it is - a sleazy crowded tourist town with no positive infrastructure or hope IMHO.

I prefer the Sunshine Coast but if your looking for a cool place, check out Woorabinda Kiss

depends how you rate it:

Sydney for example has more drugs, positives in some minds, negatives in others.

Melbourne has less gimps and fuck wits, some get along with fuck wits.

and Tasmania in general has two headed people and fuck their sisters, positives for some, negatives for others..

Gold Coast isn't a city, but surfers is nice..nicer than bloody sydney, due to tourism no doubt...but have you ever lived in Sydney?

Sydney is a hole as far as cities go..its cramped, packed, smelly, shit public transport, Bageled, shit layout, RIOTS,  old and poorly maintained and full of foreigners IMO. (I'm talking about the city not any suberbs)

I personally think Melbourne is the better city...still chock full of foreigners but at least the rest is better and at least melbourneians dont say their city is the best cuz it was their turn for the olympics and for the sake of it Kiss

I've either visited or lived in every city on the east coast so this is at least my "informed opinion"..unlike some others Grin

LET THE FLAMAGE BEGIN!!

p.s. HAVING said all that..come to this years =]DI[= Meet which is in ...Sydney...see for yourself !! Grin

All cities have those people though mate, Prahan, St Kilda in Melbourne and I forget where in Sydney, Brisbane has them..Damit & Random know where to go though..so I think that cancels that out Cheesy

I think that really, they all have their positives and negatives and no city is better than the next. (There is an exception to this rule which I will explain later)

For example, Melbourne. Positives: Great sports facilities. Good music scene. Good transportation options. (compared to where I live) Negatives: Pretty goddam boring and bland though other than that.

Sydney. Positives: Has all those cool landmarks. Harbour scenery. Negatives: Everyone keeps getting shot.

Brisbane. Positives: Beautiful waterside scenery right from the front door of your house. Nehatives: Beautiful waterside scenery right from the front door of your house.

Gold Coast/Sunshine Coast. Positives: Great tourist destination. Sun and beaches and fun. Negatives: Lots of tourists.

Perth. No one cares. But Fremantle kicks the shit out of it these days from what I hear.

Adelaide. I went there once, saw Aboriginals smoking a bong on a ratty couch in their front yard.

Darwin. Hot.

Now on to actual good places. Launceston wins. Everything you ever need is right here. We have a goddam natural beauty right in the middle of town, with a big old swimming pool right next to it with heaps of hot chicks. If that doesn't suit you, there are fantastic beaches as close as 30 minutes away. The pubs are all pretty much sweet and because there isn't a fuck ton of people here like all your shitty ass cities, there is an associated drop in the amount of fuckbags present. If I want to go smash it on an awesome twisty road, there are great mountain roads in every direction only 30 minutes away and through beautiful green countryside.

It takes 15 minutes to get across town, it doesn't take fucking hours to go anywhere like it does in big cities, I don't have to worry about where to park my car because there is tons of spots and it doesn't cost a million dollars.

Negatives: All the douche bags who complain about how crap it is here and move away only to come back like a year later.

Now the exception to the rule, is that Launceston is better than Hobart, the state capital. It just is.

Melbourne FTW!!!

I remember the first thing I saw when I went into Canberra...

It was a warehouse that sold nothing but porn. the place is a very small city with not much to do. however, Parliament house during question time is fucking hilarious, best part of the place.

I love Melbourne though, it's the best.

oh yeah, and then there's Adelaide. IMO South Australia's a fucked up state.
takes at least an hour to get ANYWHERE, there's a barrage of flies, nothing to do without driving for ages, then Adelaide: The wind blows in opposing directions and there's only 1 tram line and yet it fails A LOT more often than Melbourne.

I haven't been in Sydney long enough to really give a good opinion. I always go there to leave it Kiss

I wouldn't mind seeing Brisbane, because seeing as how both Qld and Vic have a rivalry with NSW we get along Smiley

Sydney has the worst traffic, the most cramped beaches, awful public transport and angry people everywhere

But

We have Bageled and Inwalda and Jstar

Best of all, I'm in Sydney, and Chalice isn't.

Like the Gold Coast, Chalice is best enjoyed occasionally. Like a night with a hooker.

well i have been to a few places
Brisbane: lived here all my life know my way around the northside pretty well and it is heaps better than the south side Kiss
Macky: in summer it is like breathing water up there on a hot humid day, has nice beaches and genially has nice weather
Sydney: have been there a couple of times and not too much different from Brisbane CBD but alot more compact in even in the burbs
Melbourne: have been there once and well to be honest was quite drunk the whole time so i dont remember much of it
Canberra: is one big roundabout and friccking cold
Gold coast/ sunshine coast: are friccking great to visit for a holiday but dont like the idea of living there

all in all i would say it would more important to me to be able to hang out with my mates and know where to go to have a good party
