Yeah it was pretty mediocre, Chal and I saw it yesterday
Monsters from the Matrix, dogfight scenes like Independence day, storyline like Cloverfield with the same unsatisfying open-ended conclusion, and motion-sickness inducing shakycam action scenes which are apparently all the rage now.
If you gotta see it download it, don't spend your money on it.

^^ as above, had great potential (having ripped off other Sci Fi blockbusters) ...but they failed on this one.

Well said Smiddi, I think you've hit on probably the first alien invasion story, War of the Worlds was written in the late 1800's, all alien invasion stories stem from there, HG Wells and Jules Verne practically invented the sci fi genre after all. Gears Of War mythology has a slightly diffrent twist in the invaders come from the centre of the earth. Though I don't think GoW is set on Earth, but rather a near Earth planet, still good games, a handful of good books and a comic series supporting the mythology. Halo is another good mythology, it is the only one I can think of that explains why the aliens are invading. In Halo it isn't invasion but rather a religiously driven genocide of humans, that gets a tick on my plausability scale. The best earth invasion story I've come across is David Gerrolds Chtorr series, he starts the invasion with the aliens terraforming Earth before intelligent life arrives, much as we would if we were to attempt to populate Mars for example.
