I hear the Remington 700 Series are a quality line of rifle. Snipers used them in the Vietnam War.
Cant tell if thats sarcasm.

Remington make overpriced shit. Only good thing about them is the long list of aftermarket parts available.
Winchester are decent but they're also over priced.
Ruger make some good stuff thats pretty cheap.

Get a Tikka, cheap and accurate. 22 is a good starting point for shooting, especially if you wanna take out some bunnies for food and not spend alot on ammo. 223 or a 243 are also good, accurate, can take out anything from a rabbit to a goat (some use it against pigs but id rather use a 308 for that), ammo is reasonably priced compared to the larger cals, low recoil round.

for 22s CZ make a really good rim fire and they're cheap.

What ever you do though dont get a shit scope. im not saying spend 2k on one but spend a good 500-600 and get some decent glass.

Try different ammo brands, some perform different in different guns. You can have 2 exact same rifles and one might perform better than the other with certain ammo.

Finally look up some videos on how to clean the rifle and get yourself a single piece rod, not one of those 3 piece ones. Dont get boretech cos their rods are terrible, they are way to flexible so the thing you dont want when cleaning is a rod flexing as your putting a patch through.

They still use rem 700's in combat but they are so modified barely any of it is original and yes the standard rem 700 line is absolute shit, the blueing job they do on the guns is utter shit and they rust up quickly (some chinese mob does the barrels now and remington have nothing to do with them) i wouldn't choose anything less than a rem 700 sendero they are ok rifles but bit over priced. Stay away from the SPS models!
