Watching Pocahontas just last night, and yeah. Amazingly similar. But surely it's just a coincidence??

Its like EVERY hollywood movie story line:

Introduction of characters.
Boy meets girl.
They secretly fall in love.
They face a hardship to test their love.
The male comes out triumphant.
They both end up together on a platform/stage/podium/etc with a group of people cheering at them and they embrace.
The end.

Think about it: Star Wars, Avatar, Pretty Woman, Crocodile Dundee, Ghostbusters, etc - like EVERY Hollywood movie.

Get a plot. Meh.
.

Well said Smiddi. There are plot line similatities between every film and some dozen others, how are you people just discovering this.

And when it comes to Avatar, Pocohontas misses the biggest theme of Avatar, the whole destroying the forest bit...swing and a miss for me...... Fern Gully is a better fit.

From IMDB

Quote
Ferngully is a rain-forest, it is home to a race of fairies who have never seen humans and believe Humans don't exist and only exists in stories. That is until the arrival of Batty, a wacky bat who tells the Fairies that he has seen the Humans. Curious, when she sees smoke from Mount Warning, a fairy named Crysta travels beyond Ferngully and discovers a group of humans is destroying the rain-forest. Crysta discovers a human named Zak who is helping destroy the rain-forest and accidentally shrinks him. Once discovering the beauty of Ferngully, Zak and Crysta learn the Fairies and Ferngully itself are in mortal danger, when the humans free Hexxus, a evil oil-like creature who along time ago was turned into a tree when he tried to unleash chaos in Ferngully and has taken over "The Leveler" a logging machine as he begins his evil scheme to destroy Ferngully and only Zak, Crysta, Batty, Pips and The Beetle Boys can defeat Hexxus and save Ferngully from destruction.

Interesting bageled, I actually went to see fern gully at the cinemas when I was in school because I come from Murwillumbah which is only about 20 minutes away from the foot of Mount Warning.
I remember that Hexxus used to freak me the fuck out.

i would like to point out avatar was written before time, so every movie is based of it, that is all.

good old vagina dentata

came across this little beauty, an anti rape device, that literally gives women teeth down there......nasty...

Quote
The Rape-aXe is a latex sheath embedded with shafts of sharp, inward-facing barbs that would be worn by a woman in her vagina like a tampon. If an attacker were to attempt vaginal rape, his penis would enter the latex sheath and be snagged by the barbs, causing the attacker excruciating pain during withdrawal and (ideally) giving the victim time to escape. The condom would remain attached to the attacker's body when he withdrew and could only be removed surgically[citation needed], which would alert hospital staff and police. Like most condoms, Rape-aXe also usually prevents pregnancy and the transmission of HIV and sexually transmitted diseases.

Rape-aXe was unveiled on August 31, 2005 in South Africa. Mass production was scheduled to begin in April 2007.[2]
