We have drones at work that we play around with, would love to borrow them and do this. Would get asses handed to us, but shit would be fun.

Ordered - Drone Racer Type A with screen - cause I think the goggles will give me motion sickness a bit.

I got the Drone Race Type A
1 extra battery. Batteries can be sourced here so when I get better will buy some more.
Got the extra charger for above.
FTV screen and clamps to connect to the remote. Like I said, suspect I will get motion sickness.
Shit loads of blades. (Mates here have a CNC mill so we plan on making some modded frames in the mills.)

Update - ordered it on Saturday, DHL tracker shows it passed customs successfully, and now bouncing around somewhere in QLD. So eta is Monday.

And I will be in Bundy on annual leave the day the fucker arrives at my office.

And on a side note for those who want one, be careful for the GST / customs part. If your drone is over $1,000 it can be held for GST import tax. Or soemthing, I never got hit with it as mine was under $1,000 but the other guys here who bought them purchased kits 1,500 and were slowed down for it.

well on annual leave at moment and my lovely supervisor sent me a pic of the box and the stuff in side.

So much drool. I wondr if I can skip the kids and leave to go get it. They should be right in Bundy while I drove to Gladstone and collect it ?

This is very rushed and in no order as I am trying to do this on annual leave with two bored kids who are looking at this thing like its a cheap $5 toy and want to smash it.

Not in order, but I took images from opening the box to opening each box separate. This is very sweet and very WELL organised. When I get shit from BNE sent here its like a 4yr old packed it. This has effort in it and every thing works. I did two flights.

1st flight in side and fucked up bad, had two props on back to front but then worked that out. Then took off from the box it was on and it hooked and cart wheeled into the floor. FUCKING DANGEROUS ! ! It can cut you. Blades snapped and flew across the room. Carbon fibre frame and camera - all ok. Blades are cheap and replaceable and easy. SO SUPER Easy to mod / change out.

2nd flight outside (slight wind) Drone didn't care much about wind as it wasn't strong enough, but the pilot was a tool. I did some simple flights and when bringing it back to land I didn't see a long blade of grass and hit it. It pulled the drone into another cart wheel and snapped the props on a concrete slab. All ok just changed the broken props. All back n working.

I have stopped for now and am assembling the FPV system to the controls as the kids right now are using it to watch on and I need it as its really handy to have and gives a great view of what yours about to crash into :)

and after mounting it; took a bit of effort but its done and needed if you lose sight. As I am on a hill I don't worry if it drops behind it as I can see the drone from the TV.

Extra bits I learnt - getting the extra battery and better charger is good as its not only got the lcd, but its programmable and shows you the cells life and will decharge and recharge as one of the many functions it has. Better than the other charger which you just plug on and pray.

Edit - bought more props and some landing gear. I am thrashing this thing. Thank god its a mod design and the carbon fibre is all I need. And I also like the different colours and have ordered some new colours and extras .... and OMG.

DO NOT GET ONE. Its fun and sucks life from your bank account in mods.

One thing, It looks like the lens of the FPV camera sticks out the front of the drone... Is there some kind of facebars (like on a cricket helmet) you could get to protect it in the event of further concrete cartwheeling?

Correct - the Type A has no protection on the top, just the underneath. Which means both the battery and the camera are exposed. So if you flip and land upside down, they may be damaged. I have a mate with a cnc mill making me a carbon fibre add on to go over / extend over the top (Just a copy of the 250). The 250 SRD drone has the extended hood over the top and back. But I was not prepared to spend the extra cash when I can get extra chasis manufactured cheap.

Drone is out of action for 4 days till new landing gear gets in. I can fly it by taking off and landing on gras. But me landing on grass is not that 100% yet. And would prefer to have landing struts before I skull drag the fuck out of it more.

OK am trying to upload one more. We were in a car park next to work and just kicking around. Sorry but our camera man was also playing around with a new camera so we were all newbies.

We didn't break it, we had a few close calls and lost track of which way was left right etc but we had a fun time :)

That's wonkier than my helicopter flying on my simulator. Clocked more time flying virtually than I have with my real RC heli...

I know - I am a pretty bad pilot and need a lot of practice. All up I have a total of 19 mins of flight time with the thing.

Kids are killing me and I have just changed jobs so I am under heavy time constraints.

Ah, well you're probably doing respectably for 19 minutes of flight time. You made it sound like you've spent hours with it now.

Easy as to use, and does a great job. For the stuff I'm doing at them moment, Adobe Premiere produces 450meg avi files, and Handbrake reduces them to 25 meg mp4 with no discernible loss of quality.

OK first Drone Prac and hopefully a race is on this Sunday at the Gladstone Areo club. Am just flying with one other noob in the bottom of the barrel groups.

See if I can fly into a pylon an at full speed. :) If not and I survive, I will dedicate my wins (or crashes) to the Deathinc Team :)

Well today is the day, yesterday we had 25km winds and today, maybe the same, but right now its dead quiet and not a breeze. Yesterday I chanced it and took my drone out for a flight with a friend who has a similar one.

Was all good fun and duck nuts hard as the wind was a pain, I got thrown into a barrel roll, the drone auto corrected before impact and landed hard, and the smallest stick pierced into the drones RC controller wiring and torn out one of the cables from the plug. So last night was a mad rush to fix it. Drone is working and have put hot glue around the connections to ensure no plugs can pop out again and if a cable snaps this time, it will break in the middle and just need to be resoldered and heat shrink done.

Have today packed in my Nikon. I don't have any zoom lens as I am not into photography so will see how I go with pics and getting some one to video it.

Sad news. Was too windy today so no racing :( You could free flight it with others if you wanted to risk it. So we did. 1 Drone ended up a tree, and others crashed out. Overall, not bad, only 5 drone pilots turned up, 3 heli chopper pilots turned up (1 crashed and smashed the landing gear off and broke something in the main rotor) 7 planes, and they were huge. No jets turned up.

I have a video I need to dropbox of two guys just cruising and doing tricks off my iPhone, was a cool sight. Put me to shame. But everyone is keen to do a race soon. People are going to get some star pickets and pool noodles and next time is not too bad make a new circuit and we all try to race.

Top is the track layout.

One is a mate who screwed his props on upside down and flipped, only a short vid of his fuck up.

Next was a person flying a larger scale drone high and around, alas, he snapped it in half when the wind blew it and he lost control. Snapped in half HORIZONTALLY - WTF mind blown when I saw it.

Other Video was some one doing the circuit, but it was so windy it had to be done at slow speed. If you went to fast you would more than likely strafe into the side and crash out.

Last is a pic of a chopper that crashed out too, bad luck, timing and wind killed it.

Hey; just a quick video I was given from last week. Its a figure 8 we were flying last week. With bad winds again and weather is raining today so its a fucking bad month for outside sports and activities.

Objective - go around the pylons at the end and fly through the middle flags. Try to be as low as possible and repeat the track as many times as you can also. Seems easy but if you watch it the wind does knock you around a bit. I got some good runs and then a single blade of long grass got wrapped in a prop and pulled me down :)

This is really fun to do and is a good laugh. I would recommend you get one with some friends, it is an expensive outlay at first but then all you need to buy is props and maybe a motor if you burn one out.

Looks like fun. Video quality isn't great though? When it is moving there is a lot of blur. Could be my shitty internet speeds.

video on the day was not the best, bad wind, some one else flying nearby and lastly, that's some ones thing $30 (not a gopro) plugged into my screen trying to capture what I see. Hence its got scratchy sound but nothing else.
