I know these things exist, but I don’t know what they are called.

Essentially, I want to run a very long network cable, and at the end of it, I want to plug in a device with a couple of network ports, so I can connect some hard wired things to it, and I want it to transmit and wifi signal, so my wireless devices can connect to it.
I know you are all thinking a router, but I don’t want a router, they are too much trouble, I don’t want to log into a bios or bluder my way through settings menus. I just want plug and play, like a switch.
I want a switch that also does wifi.
However I don’t think that is what they are called, because I can’t find one. But I know they exist because I’ve got this nasty little D-Link powerAV thing that does it
I’m seeing these things called access points, and range extenders, but from what I read it seems they need to get the network signal wirelessly, I want to hard wire in the networks signal.
If someone could tell me what such a device is called, I can take it from there.

Wireless Access Point should be what you're after.

I've got one that only does wireless, but it plugs into the ethernet, so they do exist, and I imagine some must have multiple ethernet ports.

Check Wireless Bridge too.

I use a second router set up in bridge mode... The setup is barely anything more than what would be required for a wireless range extender.

yeah it would just be simpler to get a router in bridge mode and name the wireless network the same name and have the same password. i use this at home with an airport express (also connected to a stereo for music out on the deck) you will need to config it but it is the solution you would be best doing due to the WiFi factor. as far as i know there is not a good plug and play version of wireless that is still secure and does not require some sort of setup.
