Sorry for late notice but some mates of mine are trying to get a Bf1942/DC night happening this weekend.

They have a VDSL connection they will be running the server on. Details to follow on the night.

Date: Saturday 18 Jan
Time: 7PM QLD time, 8PM Daylight Savings time. 10PM New Zealand time.

You will need to sign up for and install Origin if you haven't already.

Then install Desert Combat mod. First download and install this

Once the game is running you will want to follow the instructions on this page to set your screen resolution and field of view

You can also delete the files under the Movies folder in the game directory to skip those insipid EA GAMES intros every time the game starts.

If you have a creative sound card you should add the game to Alchemy - click Add then select Use Game Path and point it to the bf1942.exe file. Then click >> to move it into the Alchemy Enabled Games column.

Don't forget to set up your joystick if you have one.

Serious question; can I play this in Ubuntu? I don't have a Windows machine anymore after repeated crashes and a lack of interest in fixing it.

I'll be talking to Bohica about an upgrade at some stage but until then I'm stuck with Ubuntu, or PS3...

Damn, I have work that night. I would of been super keen.

A quick google suggests it will work under Wine but I've never tried it.

I've installed BF1942 on Origin no worries, and the 0.7 Desert Combat mod, but I run into a problem here:


When I download this file (dc_final_client.exe) and go to install it, it does not specify an install location, the box is just blank.  So where should this patch be installed to?  The BF1942 directory, or a subdirectory, or somewhere else?

Any assistance you could provide would be very handy :)

It should go into the bf1942 directory,  for example c:\program files \ea games\battlefield 1942\
