Here's my three. Two aren't exactly unknow, but are far from mainstream, the other may be a bit more obscure.

First up is Kerbal Space Program.
I think it's still in Alpha, but it is steadily approaching Beta, with constant solid progress. It's being developed by a Mexican graphic design company. The lead developer went to his boss one day, asked if he could make a game, and after presenting a his idea and a business plan, he got the go ahead. The team keeps expanding and it's now an awesome space sim.

Second is the most obscure of the three, Blockade Runner.
Kinda like Minecraft in space, I haven't played it for about a year, but I've been a backer for maybe 18 months. It appears to still be under decent development.

Ok, so it looks batshit boring. It's not. It does, however, have a really steep learning curve. Seriously, if you're going to give Dwarf Fortrss a try, get Dwarf Therapist and follow a tutorial. You WILL NOT enjoy it at all if you just try to wing it. Follow pretty much any tutorial, then once you have a bit of a clue what's going on, use the wiki to find out specifics.

For those that played and loved the old Total Annihilation. I been playing the beta for a bit it awesome.

ive just started playing Dark souls (so i can finish pre march 2014 when DS2 comes out)
this game is fkn difficult, unforgiving and makes me want to pull my teeth out... but its so much fun o_O

I'm looking forward to Starbound (http://playstarbound.com/) which is like Terraria in space with more quests and things to do.


On a similar note a huge patch for Terraria came out recently with heaps of new content.


I'm also looking forward to the XL Engine  (http://xlengine.com/) which is not so much a new game but rather a modern engine for 4 classic games: Daggerfall, Dark Forces, Outlaws and Blood.
Daggerfall in particular I'm interested in playing again as it has the best storyline of the entire elder scrolls series, but the sheer number of bugs and the clunky engine makes it a bit of a chore to play.

Banished reminds me of sim city or Anno. Would that be roughly right in its context?

Reading the thing for Banished, it sounds a bit like Dwarf Fortress but more accessible. I'm interested.

Hmm... That's not a good sign if it's accurate. Looks like I'll pass for now until they've got more in the game. The ship collisions looks pretty awesome.

Starpoint Gemini 2 is a lot like freelancer if you ever played that, it's more combat and exploration based than the X series.

Kenshi is a squad based rpg with some city building stuff in it. If you like mount and blade you'll like this, you can pick up the demo from their site and it basically gives you the full version of the game.

Reminds me of something... cant put my finger on it but came out recently, I played it for a bit and threw it out cause it bored me like the others.

Overwatch appears to be more like Team Fortress 2 with skill trees, so an MMO-FPS rather than -RPG. Eitherway, signed up for the Beta, and see what happens.
