Title: metal and relic detecting.
Post by: Syklone on 07/10/2013, 06:10 PM
Hey gang. Has anyone had experience metal detecting before?

I am looking at getting a kit from here ;
http://www.garrettaustralia.com.au/ace-250-sports-pack/

My wife wants me to go for a walk every week and so far, its good cause I need to get out, but a walk along a beach feels lame to me unless it has a purpose greater than 'its for your helth'. I recall at the Gold Coast people would metal detect along the beaches and noticed no one does it where I am in cq (or they are ninjas).

So if anyone has some experience or advise on what to do or the kit I am looking at, please add some comments.

Note. This is not to find the holy chalice of health or wealth but to knock about every Sunday morning for an hour.

I am just getting clued into it all. Turns out its not as easy as waving it around and digging shite up. Plus I am short gear. I now have a full beach kit which has me clocking through the local beach very fast, but to do parks and rocky areas / bush I am shite out of luck as I have no mine rock hammers and digging tools yet. Bunnings will be raided soon though along with the local camping stores :)

Could get a stimpack or two for the tent stakes I reckon

Hahaha - I wonder what I would get for the latest thing I found, but left behind as it was too heavy;

This is similar to what I found, it was still attached to part of the hoe and I assume it snapped off behind a bull dover. Was about as long as my arm and took me 30 mins to dig out as it was wedged in a creek bed in a urban development site. Weighed probably 10 to 15 KGs.

Tooth was 15 to 20 cm long attached to steel with a rusty nut n bolt making it a total length of maybe 30cm or my fore arm. And was fucking weighty enough that I couldn't be fucked carrying it with the rest of my gear.

So that's why I never have enough tent pegs!
