I've never understood why Conroy has always focused on download speeds when all of the future benefits he's been referring to as reasons to invest in FTTH rely on fast upload speeds which can't be provided over the existing copper network.

Plus you'd never get fiber in your house without it....might be not for a while yet but it could be done.

Low latency will be good too. If you had a portable version of those surgical robots they use these days, you could theoretically get operated on by one of the world's best specialists from your own home.

Latency is the main selling point I think. Who gives a fuck if it takes you 10 minutes less to download a movie. Although good upload speeds would make working from home viable for a lot more people.

For five dollars extra a months I get 25 times the the speed. And it says it on the clip "Better than 88% of Australia", it would of been a waste money to get the 100MB package just to play games and general browsing.

See for me 100MB+ would be overkill, but the option for me to pay more money and get speeds like this is there. Are you in a major city Damit?

looks at both tests one says brisbane the other says sydney........

he is on cable like me and getting better download speeds then the fibre plan. i would be getting the 100+ just for the ease but i have not looked at the costing yet

LOL ADSL2+ Makes your NBN look like a rotten tomato  :P If your speed was 150 Mb then we would be excited

Sammy, I never said it was the fastest, I only said I was happy. I wish I had said nothing.

I know cable internet is nothing new in cities, but in the country this is a huge upgrade without a huge dollar sign attached to it. If you want to talk speed though Sammy, fucking Japan and NIGERIA will soon have a 2Gbp/s cable service which will put our national project to shame.

Your upload speed is awesome though, way better than adsl. Our business is suffering because adsl is the fastest available in our area and its just not enough.

You dont have to go far for adsl2 to be unavailable.

People who disparage the nbn all live in metro areas where internet connectivity is good already. They dont realize the nbn isnt for them.

A australias manufacturing and mining operations slow down in the future we will regret not investing in technology infrastructure. Business is becoming increasingly global and nbn would have enabled us to stay competitive in a technology focused world.

And let's not forget that those speeds would be much better if it wasn't for liberals gimped nbn. Fucking liberals have done nothing but bollocks the place up since they got in.

ah dude dont stress about it we are just a little surprised that is all..
if your happy with the speed etc great! your ping will most likely be lower still on that bandwidth compared to some of us.

You can get packages that offer the 100mbps speed, but I can't afford them on a student budget.

Connectivity in metro area's isn't always that great. I'm 30 minutes from Sydney CBD and on ADSL2. Might as well be on dial up. I'm on 60 year old subterranean copper that doesn't cope well with rain.
I'd be stoked on 25meg, fuck I'd be stocker on 16meg. If I had Damit's download speed, I don't think I'd ever stop jerking off.

That upload speed is faster than anything on HFC, which is what most seem to ignore.

The thing your missing there Sammy is cable cannot even get close to NBN re Upload speeds and adsl well your .88Mb/s says it all. Cable is shit as well when a lot of people are on at the same time similar to contention ratio on adsl. NBN doesn't have any of this and when you 100Mb/s down and 40Mb/s up its shits all over cables measly 3Mb/s upload for a cheaper price.

Just a plain ADSL connection... suits gaming and browsing just fine.

sweet Jesus it feels good to be uncapped

this is so much better now, when capped the page did not even load lol

i think that the other point being made here is that NBN being new is going to cost a heap just like when Cable or ADSL2+ came out. it is going to be a while (for the places that have it) before it is going to become the preferred option

I heard that they are calling him "One Term Tony", you know how a catchy phrase like that can make or break a politician. Remember how effective "Kevin '07" was?

I'd love a faster upload speed. I've being backing up all of my photos and home movies to Crashplan. Has taken almost the whole month at an average of 1-2Mbps.

I just moved house, and Telstra hasn't reconnected the ADSL yet... a total fuckstorm of incompetence as usual...

So I've been running my PC tethered to my iPad Air on 4G... fairly good (4 of 5 bars) signal at the new place... ran a speed test and here's the result:

Now, while I am expecting better speeds on ADSL when it finally gets connected (the local CMUX is only a few hundred metres away with fibre backhaul to the exchange), it won't be anything like this... and even with fixed wireless available in the area, it taps out at 25mbit anyway...

*pondering a 4G router*

Do up a cost analysis!

A week and a bit ago the internet is finally hooked up after a couple weeks of no net (rejoice!), but then I had to AFK for family Xmas stuff (blargle!). Finally did a speedtest. It's cable, out bayside area with shitty mobile phone/wireless reception.
