Title: Epsoma in #Murica Post by: Epsoma on 16/04/2013, 02:17 PM I am going to the united states of america this Thursday for 2 weeks. I will be going to LA and san fran. it should be good. However. has anyone got any suggestions for places I should hit up while im there. Im already hitting disney land (duh) and also im 17 so hitting the clubs/bars/hookers/brothels are out of the question. Anyone been to a real nice restaurant while they were there ect. Hook us up. Hope to hear some good suggestions. Because this clan is this clan my expectations are low. =)
Your friendly neighborhood awesomeness. Epsoma Title: Re: Epsoma in #Murica Post by: YosimeteSam on 16/04/2013, 02:36 PM Dude, they are all fat fucks over there. Any shitty ass burger joint will do. :P
Title: Re: Epsoma in #Murica Post by: DonutKing on 16/04/2013, 03:11 PM Haven't spent much time in LA but I spent 2 nights in San Fran. It was a pretty whirlwind visit but its a pretty nice place.
Can't remember the restaurants I went to but there are usually pretty good seafood restaurants down at the pier/Fishermans Wharf (the touristy area). Try the clam chowder! Don't wander too far at night, there are a lot of homeless and prostitutes there. I felt much safer in NYC than San Fran. Alcatraz is by far the biggest attraction. Other things to check out are the Mission Delores (the oldest building in San Francisco) if you're into that kind of thing, and the botanical gardens. Cable cars are kind of cool. They work by grabbing onto a cable running under the road, being pulled at either end. Their brakes are just wood blocks that stamp onto the ground, you can smell the burning wood as they go along the road. There's only a few of them and they don't go very far though. In n Out burger is a great takeaway place if you get the opportubity, and Graeter's ice cream is really good too. When I was there I didn't see any more fat people than I saw over here. Plenty of fit looking people around too. Title: Re: Epsoma in #Murica Post by: bageled on 16/04/2013, 03:34 PM 6 flags magic mountain for sure, fuck Disneyland.
Check this shit out! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=blbHTWZmQeo shit website though https://www.sixflags.com/magicMountain/index.aspx Title: Re: Epsoma in #Murica Post by: Epsoma on 16/04/2013, 04:24 PM Holy shit. That looks epic. However we dont have enough time for that I think. And that themepark isnt for the whole family. Ill still hit up the rides in disney land tho.
Title: Re: Epsoma in #Murica Post by: cowcar on 16/04/2013, 04:27 PM Have spent a lot of time in both places.
In LA: Make sure you go to Universal Studios... very cool theme park.. Lots of places to eat at , but just go along rodeo drive you will find something. I would say avoid hollywood , as it is a dive filled with scientoligists / hookers and ice addicts... Also go down to Venice beach. In San fran, check out the main tourist area. i agree with Donut... lot of homeless in san fran, but there are some very cool bars (not that it matters for you)... Once you have done the waterfront and alcatraz, i would head out to San Jose (ie sillicon valley...) and just go for a drive out there.. but then they any not be of interest to you... Title: Re: Epsoma in #Murica Post by: Epsoma on 16/04/2013, 05:13 PM ok. ill pass this onto the planners. (Mum and Dad)
Title: Re: Epsoma in #Murica Post by: kesawi on 16/04/2013, 07:49 PM I did a 4 week trip to the US last year in September which included LA and San Francisco. It went with my partner and our two kids aged 10 and 12.
Make sure you grab a San Francisco City Pass (www.citypass.com/san-francisco (http://"http://www.citypass.com/san-francisco")). It gives you discounted entry to a range of popular attractions which are all well worth seeing. More importantly it gives you unlimited travel on the Muni, buses, trams and cable cars for 7 days. We used public transport to go everywhere and it was invaluable. You won't want a car in San Francisco as the public transport is great. We took a San Francisco Urban Tour (www.theurbansafari.com/tours/sf (http://"http://www.theurbansafari.com/tours/sf")) which included an Alcatraz Tour in the afternoon. It gives a good overview of all the main sites however you only get 10-20 minutes at each location so it is only really a taster. Don't be put off by the look of the vehicle, the couple that run it are great and it was well worth it. If you're more adventurous, you can take a day trip out to Yosemite National Park. It is a long day though and is a 5-6 hours drive each way, but was well worth it as the scenery is breath taking. You only get around 3-4 hours in the park though. We went through Incredible Adventures (www.incadventures.com/trips/yosemite/yosemite1day.php (http://"http://www.incadventures.com/trips/yosemite/yosemite1day.php")) who run a small group tour of 12 people. Our guide was really knowledgeable and friendly. A two day tour would be better as it goes deeper into the park but you have to balance that with what else there is to do. Despite the long trip our kids really enjoyed it. The whole trip they wanted to see a squirrel and by the end of the day they were over them. If you're not up for a long day trip, try Muir Woods which is closer to San Francisco. There are plenty of tours out there. My Cousin did a hop-on hop-off tour in San Francisco (www.bigbustours.com/eng/sanfrancisco/custompage.aspx?id=tour_of_san_francisco&gclid= (http://"http://www.bigbustours.com/eng/sanfrancisco/custompage.aspx?id=tour_of_san_francisco&gclid=")) and said it was great as they could take their own time at many of the destinations rather than being rushed. We stayed in Hayes Valley and there are lots of nice cafes and restaurants around there, but not really much else to see. It was a great place to stay though. There was a place called Smitten in a park on the corner of Fell & Octavia that makes icecream fresh on the spot using liquid nitrogen. It was the smoothest, most creamiest icecream I've ever had. When in LA you will need a car. I don't think we could have managed it without one. I bought car rental and excess insurance through a UK broker for approximately GBP100 (http://www.questor-insurance.co.uk/ (http://www.questor-insurance.co.uk/)). It saved me from paying the inflated $20-$30/day insurance surcharges from the car rental agency. Only issue is that if anything happens to the car you have to pay the rental agency, then claim it form the insurer. If you only have one day at Disneyland, go to Disney California Adventure. It's a much better park than Disneyland (better rides, more open space). Make sure to see the world of colour show at the end of the night. To get the best view you need to grab tickets which can only be obtained from the Grizzly River Run ride when the park opens. Typically most people head there first to grab a ticket before they run out. You can also pay to have a reserved dinner seating. Universal studios was really good and you'll need to get there when it opens. It can be done in one day if you do it right. Go straight to the studio tour when you get there as that gets busy quite fast. Once you've done that head down to the lower level and do all of the rides there such as Transformers 3D, Jurassic Park, etc. Next head back up top and do the Simpson's rides and then make your way through the park to the Waterworld Show at the end of the day. Finally go through Universal Citywalk. I was pretty disappointed with Hollywood but there are a lot of things well worth seeing nearby. Beverley Hills is nice and the Cheese Cake factory on the street behind Rodeo Drive was our best meal of the whole trip. We went to the La Brea tar pits which has a museum full of ice age fossils that have been excavated there. It was really interesting. Lego Land is worth going to if you love Lego but the rides are pretty tame and aimed at kids under 10. The city scapes made from Lego are pretty cool. It is also a 3 hour drive south of LA. The other other theme parks are much better for rides and entertainment. On our last day in LA we drove along the coast through long beach. There is a WW2 Battleship USS Iowa moored there which you can go on. Unfortunately we didn't get the time. EDIT: I did start doing a photo log of our trip but it sort of stopped as I was enjoying myself way too much to be posting lots of photos: http://www.deathinc.com.au/index.php?topic=15293.0 (http://www.deathinc.com.au/index.php?topic=15293.0) Title: Re: Epsoma in #Murica Post by: Epsoma on 16/04/2013, 08:06 PM Holy crap. Ever thought about being a holiday planner. Cheers for all that information. I will defiantly be showing the planners this. Dad and I are going to go onto a battleship but I forget which one. Im so excited. Thanks again.
Eps. p.s Will let you know what goes down. Title: Re: Epsoma in #Murica Post by: kesawi on 16/04/2013, 09:17 PM Glad to help. One thing I forgot to mention is that you can buy prepaid AT&T mobile phones with a month of credit for around $70-$100 each and use them to make calls. Much cheaper than global roaming fees. I used my Australian phone and got a SIM through T-Mobile on a prepaid plan. It was $25 for the SIM and $50 for one month's credit which gave me unlimited calls and text in the US, 500MB of data at 4G, and uncapped data at 2G. Only problem is most Australian phones aren't compatible with the US 3G and 4G networks for data. Not sure if the plans are still available.
Also buy a small 4-outlet power board and take it with you, that way you can use one power point adaptor with four devices. Finally go into a Fry's Electronics Store, they're like a Bunnings except for computers and electronics. Title: Re: Epsoma in #Murica Post by: Epsoma on 17/04/2013, 06:38 AM Thanks for that. I'm going link y dad this now! I read your trip thing last night and had a huge laugh to the point of tears about the sluts thing. Thanks
Title: Re: Epsoma in #Murica Post by: jazzycat on 18/04/2013, 06:13 PM While you're in San Fran, get a taste of the clam chowder in a sour-dough bread bowl. I don't even LIKE clam chowder and I found that shit amazing! Where the best place is now for the stuff though, I don't know.... Google probably knows though.

The best place is Boudin Sourdough cafe at Pier 39. If you do the urban safari tour it's a great place to have dinner after coming back from Alcatraz. Only I recall it as "some randomly awesome cafe at the famous Pier-Number place!" :D Title: Re: Epsoma in #Murica Post by: kesawi on 18/04/2013, 09:36 PM Stuff around San Francisco

If you don't want to hang on the steps you can go up a couple of stops and get on one straight away. (https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-zGHXv_OdoxE/UW_qfFIJMQI/AAAAAAAAPXw/2DbBzXu5f-k/s640/DSC_9827.JPG) Lombard Street is famous for being steep and windy. I think the Hyde & Beach cable car route runs past the top. (https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-yE0CqHXinXs/UW_qP0mqTsI/AAAAAAAAPXg/_leer3l_hGw/s640/DSC_9834.JPG) The Exploratorium. It's a big interactive science museum and we spent a whole afternoon there. (https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-SO1VmxaMQEo/UW_qT25nDnI/AAAAAAAAPXo/ug5Vy8PWN2U/s640/DSC_9843.JPG) Yosemite. This and the Grand Canyon were the highlights of our trip for me. (https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/--Er6lfCCybo/UW_qkdKlWFI/AAAAAAAAPYE/4gan-T4p0I0/s640/DSC_9874.JPG) California Academy of Science. Title: Re: Epsoma in #Murica Post by: Epsoma on 25/04/2013, 01:52 PM So today we went to universal studios and we waited for our first ride for 50 mins. Halfway through our first ride it broke down for like 5 mins and then they have us tickets to get to the front of the line on any one ride we choose. However, we milked it and managed to get front of the line on all of the main rides. They would have taken around 3 hours to do all the rides but we did it in around 45 mins. It was epic :D btw least we forget <3
Title: Re: Epsoma in #Murica Post by: Epsoma on 27/04/2013, 06:26 AM Just sitting outside the USS IOWA. Amazing battleship. Kewasi. You really missed out. This battleship kicks ass. After the trip I'll post some of the best pics or you all to see and be jealous of :p
