Have they strengthened and/or completely redesigned the firing pin?

Also it looks like all my recycled milk bottles have been put to good use. Seriously though that plastic looks so shoddy to me from those photos. I wouldn't accept that on my paintball gun let alone what i'd need if I was put in a live combat situation.

Its also really goofy-looking... Like they took a kit for a scar, steyr aug and p90, grabbed the metal bits from the scar and glued them to the plastic parts from the steyr and p90, then added picatinny rails to mount scopes/launchers/smoothie machines/other shit no-one will use because it's too heavy.

I don't know. If they painted the whole thing matte black and took the attachments off I'd probably be all "ERMAGHERD! *gun-gasm*" though so hey we'll wait and see what they do with it ;)

imo its a decent rifle, i just wish they'd piss off that pathetic 223./5.56 nato (varmint round) i know some guys in the army that say they definetly put a few good rounds into guys and they keep running/fighting cause they are so small and travel to quick thru the body to cause serious damage (hence the tumblers they're using now that are apparently illegal according to nato) lol. They gotta go back to the using the 308./7.62 as their main battle rifle caliber again, yes its slower, yes it lobs, yes its a little more expensive, yes it makes more mess but it fucking impacts like someone threw rosie o'donnell at you and you arent getting up after that hits :D. If you go to war you want a bullet thats dependable and will smash the enemy and make sure he wont get back up, i use a 223. to hunt wild dogs ffs and ive had a few i hit in the chest (just missed its vitals by mm) run away wounded to fight another day where as if i used the 308. and hit the same spot it would have hit it like a freight train and fragmented through both lungs and heart and dropped it like a sack of shit. Im no dead i dick as a shooter and neither is the common rifleman and you cant expect them to be.

Bottom line is we gotta put a decent, reliable, hard hitting gun/caliber in our anzacs hand, i say they should make a 7.62 Steyr, it will be ace with the bullpup design, hugging the rifle like that should make the recoil and aiming easier to handle :D

Size doesn,t matter its all about shot placement , i,ve hit pigs with a 270 and they just keep running so its not caliber it all comes down to the shooter , as for the military they should have upgraded the SLR

sorry i tend to go on rants when im drunk lol, i agree budh about shot placement but a soldier in battle wont be accurate enough though, the 7.62 over 5.56 will help to eliminate the need for them a bit to be pin point accurate. They should have upgraded the SLR its a great battle rifle i think they have new synthetic stock models these days to make em lighter and also Nato is looking to replace the 5.56 with the 6.8 Remington SPC cause of the lack of performance of the 5.56

This is what I was afraid of; the Americans making fun of our gun  :-*  In regards to changing the ammo type we use a lot of the decision rests with what ammo the Americans use. If they changed their ammo type bet your ass Australia would too.

the 6.8mm remington spc looks promising as the new standard nato cartridge, apparently to convert an m16 is just a barrel and bolt swap and it uses the same mags as the 5.56mm

in teh 1950's the poms developed a .26 x 1.77 77 grain bullet that i believe out performed almost every other projectile under consideration. this was lost when instead of going to the EM2 the MOD went with the L1a1

the poms eh, interesting. Did that cartridge ever reach the public market? or was it just scrapped completely for the .223?
