Title: Any DI Scotch drinkers?
Post by: Fisty on 03/10/2012, 02:31 PM
Just wondering if there are any members that enjoy a good single malt?

Ive only recently in the last 12 months had my eyes opened to good scotch whisky. Its an extremely expensive but enjoyable fascination.

So far my favourite everyday scotches:
Lagavulin - 12yrs (not available currently) & 16yrs
Laphroaig - Quarter Cask
Ardbeg - 10

My love to drink scotches when available and I can justify the expense:
Ardbeg - Supernova 09 & 10
Ardbeg - Corryvreckan
Lagavulin - Distillers Edition

Fisty firstly Welcome, and the answer to you question is yes....

Everyone has to drink at deathinc other twise the images are burned in...

While I haven' started my single scotch collection yet I have since giving up smoking (I can Taste Stuff) started a blended scotch collection with $800 to go for the last 2 bottles.

Ah well you're on the road to enlightenment....

I unfortunately have walked through that door where you cant go back once you've started on single malt.
Im certainly a newbie to single malt... but wouldnt have it any other way.

Where abouts you from? Here in Perth we have a newish whisky bar (Helvetica) and whenever im in Sydney I make a point to visit the Marble Bar.

My home collection is non existant due to how quick I drink a bottle if I have one at home. Nothing like a night in on the stompy robots game with a regularly topped up neat glass of scotch.

LOVE single malt though 2 kids n' mortgage means not enough loving so often get blend like BNJ or  J&B (grants when I'm real cheap)

In no particular order:

Lagavulin - 16yrs  (OK but strangely too "smooth")
Laphroaig - 10 love it
Ardbeg - 10 love it more
Talisker - 10 soo much lovin
Highland Park - 12 mmm though it's been a while

I love a Smokey Islay though current taster is Aberlour.

My Usual method is 2 parts scotch to one part water, sometimes a bit less water. Def no ice

Is the pope catholic does a bear shit in the woods

My problem most of mine favorites are from small Scottish highland distilleries, such as the Orkney islands.

Can't buy then in Aussie :(

Have to wait for brother in law in England to come for a visit or send me some over as a gift.

The wait is a killer.

I wasn't even aware that you could get smokey tasting scotch until i went to Edinburgh. They take their shit seriously but fuck buying drinks in Britain.

My taste is definitely biased towards the peaty smokey Islay types!

I regularly travel around the country, I frequent the Marble Bar in Sydney... I dont know of many other Whisky bars elsewhere. Anyone know of some other good ones?

Isn't Japanese single malt scotch a contradiction of terms? Wouldn't that just make it whiskey?

The first single malt I tried was Laphroaig 12 yo and never looked back. I like the smoky/peaty single malts best because of the unique flavour but being a student I can only afford blends. I figure a blend is fair game for mixers and like mine with dry ginger ale.
