In my downtime im training to take the ICND1 exam hopefully later this year. With a bit of luck and a crapload of practice I'm hoping to pass and get my CCENT certification. Have any of you guys done this of late, and if so do you have any tips? So far ive invested in some craptastic but functional lab gear from ebay (couple of routers and switches) to learn how to get IOS cranking, and ive been following some guides on the internet, but specific advice from any of you network-oriented neckbeards out there would be of great use. I would rather a life and earn reasonable money :D Title: Re: Studying for ICND1 Post by: DonutKing on 15/05/2012, 04:38 PM Yes shift work is a pain, but if you stick with it and get your CCNP or better you can really start making big bucks, or even go into consulting with a few yers experience under your belt.
I last looked at cisco certs about 5 years ago. I completed the two courses required for CCNA but due to circumstances I never took the exam. Depending on how much its changed my advice to you is to learn how to figure out subnets quickly in your head, at the time I studied for it supposedly the exams were rife with questions about CIDR and subnet masking. A couple of years ago I gave a box full of old Cisco switches and routers to Clancy, a member here who I haven't seen in a while. Mr X is good friends with him so you could try tracking down one of those two and seeing if they are finished with the gear. Deadforge who isn't around here much anymore has done a pile of Cisco exams in the last year. I'm studying also on and off at the moment... You need to invest a lot of time!

Title: Re: Studying for ICND1 Post by: IcEd_RuSsIaN on 03/06/2012, 06:18 PM This maybe a bit late but instead of investing in physical routes have a look at GNS3, it will sim all the Cisco routes, PIX units, juniper gear. It will do rudimentary switch sim. When i say rudimentary you don't a few commands that you will to know, ie switchport. For this get a couple of 16p 1900 and your set. this will see you past CCNA and all the way into CCNP/VP/SP. Yes at this lvl you will need to purchase extra hardware but not as much if you go full on hardware.
Personally i would command not to bother with just doing icnd1 but instead do the combined exam because it will a) save you allot of time (sit exam, study for exam ect.) b) save you money as you only need to do 1 exam instead of 2 to get ccna. C0 if you finding this challenging a single exam would be easier as they glass over both exams without going into as much detail as the individual. |
