I've been taking some movies to watch with the old man lately. Need some suggestions for good movies or series.
So far we've watched Hornblower, Sharpe, Band of Brothers, The Pacific, Der Untergang, Enemy at the Gate...
So basically stuff historical/war based, fictional or otherwise... appreciate any good suggestions :)

Doesn't really help him come up with movie titles :P

Seeing as I only recognise 6 movie as actually being movies (all the rest are extended TV shows) I say Star Wars 1-6

I couldn't get past them casting leonardo dicaprio as an arab american...if they wanted a blonde arab they should have cast Hayden Christenson and said the midichlorieans make him look that way, it would have been as believable.

Is he open to other genres? I found Soylent Green to be a good movie.

I don't know about those movies cow, but my favorite part of Three Kings is when they stuff big duffle bags full of gold bullion and start tossing said bags to each other. George Clooney is sooooooooooo strong.

Was really hoping for a good series like Hornblower or Sharpe but they seem to be fairly unique in their niche...

The Police Academy Movie series...very much like hornblower, except rather than sailing, they drive police cars, and rather than battling the french, they battle street crime.. and each movie (i believe there are 7) is better than the last...oh.. it is also on par with hornblower for comedy too....

I can't think of anything quite like Hornblower or Sharpe. Could recommend similar books, but not movies or tv series. THe only shit thing about Hornblower was it was so short.
Completely different subject matter, but The Wire was an outstanding tv series. Unique in it's own way.
I haven't watched any of the Sharpe films, I;'ve only read the books, I will have to check them out if they are as good as Hornblower.

Completely agree that Hornblower was too short. Sharpe series isn't as good, but its decent in its own right. Cornwell said that Sharpe was based off the Hornblower novels originally.
