Title: Irish Stick Fighting
Post by: bageled on 06/05/2012, 09:05 AM
Had a play with a shillelagh(irish fighting stick) a few weeks ago and looked it up online and came across this guy, Glen Doyle.
Story goes that the Doyle clan handed down a stick fighting style from father to son for 400 years, and this guy Glen has started teaching it to the public. He is a kung fu instructor as well which has influenced the style a bit.
There are a few other irish stick fighting styles on the net, but I like this one with the two handed grip and the step forward, it goes well with what I've been taught in krav. The other styles seem more interested in fencing than finishing.

The stick punches are cool

probably scared of stereotyping irishmen since the shillelagh (sorry, no idea how its spelled properly, google chrome did that) is pretty much a weapon only used by the irish (never heard of it to be used by english or scotsmen) and as such irish characters would come with the users.

With all these styles I prefer to go to the source, the original style before it branches out into all these "mini styles"

So I have been studying Cave-Maga for years now...Kylie's not a fan....

thats it chal, you've started something.. i believe Cave-Maga is the earlier less refined style of the Kan'n (Caanan) ethnogroup, where the eurasian Late Cro-magnon groups of the Lascaux style mixed later subtle stances with the earlier more powerful Neander techniques.
