Title: Headset ideas
Post by: KARNAGE on 01/04/2012, 10:53 AM
Hey guys

My $100 turtlebeaches have fucked up on their 4th month of use and I have only just heard that Turtlebeach quality and reliability is sub par. In short, never buying them again

What would you guys suggest for a headset? preferably less than $100 and definitely reliable.

Still pissed that my $15 big W headset lasted a few years longer than it.

Don't buy Razer. Headsets break like no tomorrow.

damn right, my razers broke 2 weeks after use, $150 down the shitter.

My $50 sennheisers are quite good, cant give you a product key though, but i have had many before this one and its lasted over a year and a half for me.

Logitech G35's are good. Think they're about $100 now from Umart and what not.

My turtle beach set are unreliable .
Had a pair of logitech USB that lasted ages but were uncomfortable.
Seems that is the toss up reliable or comfortable

I think it is the type of cable used in the turtle beach that is sub part i.e. copper outer sheath touching and also being part of circuit.

My $40 Plantronics headset lasts for me around 2 years or so. Never had a problem with them, sound quality is fine. There is another version that costs $90, no idea what the difference with it is. Over the ear cover, padded and a decent length for the cable. If it breaks in 1-2 years I think you get your moneys worth.

Plantronics - Gamecom

pretty much the background noise of anything becomes more than noticeable but the main sound (ie dialogue in a show and whatnot) are barely audible; I moved my cable around and it fixes it for about 2 seconds so chances are thats the problem.

OMG PLANTRONICS, those are brilliant, the quality, longevity and comfort from them surpass even some headsets worth $150.

Dunno mate sorry, just says Gamecon on it. Anything under $50 with over ear and a mic, there should not be many of them.

Anything that's surround sound, or anything that is advertised as a "gaming" headset is a product to avoid like the plague.

obviously the ladies treat dex like a product advertised as a "gaiming " one.

Had some plantronics in the past, they were great. currently got some TDK ones, also good.. annoys me though that headsets do only last a year or 2.... always the cords that cause the issue...

yeah, a mate of mine has them. absolutely brilliant but they arent for me at that price (and Im done with most wireless stuff now)

Im looking at either one of the many plantronics gamecon whatchamacallems or the Logitech G35 as posted earlier

why do I want to avoid anything thats surround sound, harry?

I know a guy who uses these and loves them, but Ive found the price of a pair that look good are about $250.

Im looking at a pair of plantronics; they seem both cheap, reliable and decent in sound quality

I've got beyerdynamic DT234 Pro Headset http://headphones.com.au/psingle?productID=16
The boom mic died to using Zalman mic.  Nice n' lite though no frills like remote volume or mute mic.

Jr uses Plantronics 367. Remote volume n' mute mic.  Tight fit on my big noggin n' a bit heavy. We have two of these, one for Jr and one for spare PC.  Spare PC set is held together by gaffa after it broke just before BoHiCa was coming over for some PR/BF2 action a while back, hence 2nd pair purchase.  Two+ years later and the gaffa is holding and mic's working on the first set and Jr is still abusing n00bs on 2nd set.

Recently the best pro/budget compromise was Zalman mic n' AD700 http://headphones.com.au/psingle?productID=178

If you really want to pursue the search for Aural Pleasure, get some tips from Smiddi who pleasures his ears daily with increasingly hairy fingers :) http://forums.overclockers.com.au/showthread.php?t=753981

Will watch this too. My son, all 10 months decided my MS headset was worth chewing on. So soon I will need to shop around for some.

I've got a steel series headset.

http://steelseries.com/products/audio/steelseries-5hv2

It has a flexible mic boom thingo that also retracts into the headpones which is hand when eating. Super long cable with plugs halfway down so it is easy to swap from head sets to speakers on the desk. The surround sound in these is really good. Made an immediate impact on my gameplay in bc2 as I could hear people sneaking up behind me. Not so much in bf3, not sure if it is because the sound is not so good in bf3, or I haven't updated drivers.
I have a big head, and big ears and they cover them comfortably. THe head band is also padded and my head doesn't get sore from it.
My only complaint about them is they came with an external sound card which is shit, so why include it, and they get hot, but that is common to any clam headsets.

The RRP in Aussie is insane!  i bought mine from NZ when i was over there,  $150 NZD, thats like, just over $100UAUD if that even!
And that was normal price from a legit store (computer lounge in albany)

umm, what?

I saw the sound card thing but I wont be looking into that (unless they're really cheap). And sillen, I saw that headset tested out in a PCPP review with some good results (if I remember it correctly); but it's out of my price range

the steelseries are nice but out of my price range, even though that retractable mic is tempting.

Im looking at either the Logitech G35 for $100
or the Plantronics Gamecom 377 for $43
(both from Umart)

id say if you have to go wired, go G35.  Also real nice retractable boom / 3x buttons on the left earpiece (G1/G2/G3 programable) and a volume dial :D

Ok but this is starting to annoy me, what's a boom? (other than the sound)

ok, cool, thanks

also that set looks a lot like a wireless headset a mate of mine has. I'm probs just getting the wired version :P

I've decided on the LG as a review on umart said if you're looking for a good headset to go more upmarket than the plantronics.

I wanted a boomstick but Ive been advised that the head is not a good place to rest it. mixed messages in marketing >:(

I received mine this afternoon (G35 headset that is) and already I reckon it's the best headset I have owned... 7.1 surround is pretty cool, like the mic, clear as a bell... +1 recommendation the G35 from me...

lets hope this thing can last longer than a year; although LG tend to have decent quality
