Hey all,
A few months ago I had an idea for a video series to show the Halo story in whole. I started making it about 3 months ago. I have just uploaded the first Part and have realised other people have already thought of it. I was a little detered by this but then I watched one of them, It was nearly completely uncut and ruined emersion by constant jumping and non-combat manouvers (jumping around for absouloutly no reason). So then I thought, at least I could do a decent quality one.

So here is the first of them. This episode is probably 10 hours worth of editing, not mentioning the game play time (its all done on ledgendary).

I would appreciate feedback, especially from people who have never played as Im trying to get the storyline across. Also, HUD or no HUD. No HUD = cinematic, HUD = realistic. Creative critism please, not just 'LoL wHAT ghhhEEEYY'

Sorry - what was the thread actually about? If it's about the previous halo books or whatever i can give you a link to the story...im guessing what this post is about? or im guessing that you're recounting the story of the previous halo editions? if this is so i can't see whats wrong with it unless you're talking about H3 which some people may not have finished yet.

Oh ok...I've got a DVD on all of the Halo 1 and Halo 2 cutscenes/story (comes with the legendary pack of H3)... and i'm not particularly sure of the copyright rules so i wont comment on that. IF all is ok with this video then make sure you make a spoiler alert.

i'm pretty sure that caboose has the jest of it copyright doesn't really cover this.

Mmm...i remember IT Ethics in my Yr.11 IT course. It's amazing how much copyrighted stuff is out there illegally. It's also amazing how quickly big companies dominate those people that put that stuff out there.

apparantly microsoft/bungie support machinima but your not allowed to use the games sounds.. how the fudge do you get around that? i dont know any other rules but nice video caboose

And yes, you arent allowed to use the sounds. However that is refering to you, say, stealing its music, or, using its gunshot sounds in another game. However aslong as the video and audio are together it doesnt matter. Very fucking confusing.

And lol Virgil, you got served by Ice. Also, I know the legal implications. If it was EA and I was making a huge site that sold shit. I wouldnt post it here. But seeing as its Bungie and its just a little video Im pretty sure that they wont mind.
But Virgil I know exactly what you are saying, however I feel if Sammy or Smiddi feel that there is going to be legal action against this clan for a video I made and is hosted on another website, then its their choice to remove it, however I feel they will understand the chances of sueing, let alone sueing the clan which is almost completely uninvolved, is very low.

1. Stfu guys, keep it peaceful before this gets locked. We do have a lot of Halo fans here.

2. About the movie. If you look at it from a person who has never played Halo's point of view then the video is quite confusing, especially since there are quite long cinematics and then some short fast stuff. So in saying that this would probably interest Halo players - but then that makes the video kind of pointless. My advice: work out who you want to cater for and then produce the video that way. Atm its in the middle which IMO, makes it boring and a waste of time. Has potential though.

One last thing, the intro is really good - I like it, but the text is blurry and needs to be re-worked. Also, there are a couple mistakes in there that if you watch the intro I'm sure you'll pick up. Oh and theres a long pause with a blank screen that could be taken out/shortened.

Try something new with part 2... a whole bunch of cinematics is boring as fuck. Try to use gameplay to tell the story using the voices of the players in the game like you did at 06:06 - thats good. Also, try not to make it look like you're rushing the story. Near the end you seem to be rushing and skipping places so you can get to the pod to escape - it makes it look really hurried and un-appealing, especially to someone who has played the game. Not sure how you would go about fixing that.

Lol wrote more than I thought I would... anyway, last thing: don't suck at the game :P. Aim higher XD

I understand what your saying, but my problem was that the start of halo 1 really is jsut cinematics. I am hoping to get a bit more gameplay.


This is because of the font. When I was previewing the movie (I use Vegas) I ammumed that it may be giving off a lower quality as Vegas does that with fonts sometimes. However upon further inspection I noticed that the actual font isnt detailed enough. I used Arial to have a look and its crisp as. This cannot be halped but as you will see at the start of Part 2 (probably today) it doesn zoo min so the font is crisp.


Im guessing your refering to a video missing in one of the heartbeats? Genuine mistake, this was caused because Vegas cant load all of the different clips at the same speed they are meant to be played and i generally dont pay attention to the intro when im reviewing the post video.

The long black part, i initially did it without it and it seemed a little bit odd, however that wont be in future parts.

6:06 is happening alot more, I had a bit of a problem with FRAPS and alot of the video got corrupted, hence the missing scenes before boarding the escape pod. This is also partly why it appears Im rushing the story :)

Oh, btw, in part 2 there is currently 25 seconds of cinematics and 3:30 of gameplay...with 6:06 action included :)
Also, I just found a funny blooper, i was trying to make something cinematic by doing a slide in a warthog and fell off a cliff and had to redo the entire area :P

I understand Virgy, we all have those kinds of days. Besides I enjoy arguing so it worked out win-win :P

it would be rather. use the halo3 engine and recreate all of the maps and missions...awesome.
