Title: Halo - The Story 01 Post by: SgtCaboose on 04/10/2007, 03:53 PM Hey all,
A few months ago I had an idea for a video series to show the Halo story in whole. I started making it about 3 months ago. I have just uploaded the first Part and have realised other people have already thought of it. I was a little detered by this but then I watched one of them, It was nearly completely uncut and ruined emersion by constant jumping and non-combat manouvers (jumping around for absouloutly no reason). So then I thought, at least I could do a decent quality one. So here is the first of them. This episode is probably 10 hours worth of editing, not mentioning the game play time (its all done on ledgendary). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kSsoMvNPyWU I would appreciate feedback, especially from people who have never played as Im trying to get the storyline across. Also, HUD or no HUD. No HUD = cinematic, HUD = realistic. Creative critism please, not just 'LoL wHAT ghhhEEEYY' EDIT: Just noticed the audio difference in the last clip. Sidenote: getting back into gaming very soon. (<1 week) Title: Re: Halo - The Story Post by: IcEd_RuSsIaN on 04/10/2007, 04:05 PM OMFG dAT ggggGGAYYYYY

Title: Re: Halo - The Story REMOVED Post by: MXfLy on 04/10/2007, 05:47 PM Sorry - what was the thread actually about? If it's about the previous halo books or whatever i can give you a link to the story...im guessing what this post is about? or im guessing that you're recounting the story of the previous halo editions? if this is so i can't see whats wrong with it unless you're talking about H3 which some people may not have finished yet.
Title: Re: Halo - The Story REMOVED Post by: SgtCaboose on 04/10/2007, 05:49 PM im making a series that goes over the entire halo storyline. seeing as someone actually seems interested I will repost it:

IF all is ok with this video then make sure you make a spoiler alert.
Title: Re: Halo - The Story Post by: Jakes2142 on 04/10/2007, 06:12 PM i'm pretty sure that caboose has the jest of it copyright doesn't really cover this.

Eplain to me how: http://rvb.roosterteeth.com and www.machinima.com Are still up? I dont see game producers up in arms about it. Also Metal, according to what your saying, remove your Avatar and sig please. Infact remove anyones sig which features any game. Sounds stupid right? Title: Re: Halo - The Story Post by: MXfLy on 04/10/2007, 06:55 PM Mmm...i remember IT Ethics in my Yr.11 IT course. It's amazing how much copyrighted stuff is out there illegally. It's also amazing how quickly big companies dominate those people that put that stuff out there.
Title: Re: Halo - The Story Post by: SgtCaboose on 04/10/2007, 06:58 PM Virgil has removed his posts, as will I.
Title: Re: Halo - The Story Post by: C0L0N3L on 04/10/2007, 08:43 PM apparantly microsoft/bungie support machinima but your not allowed to use the games sounds.. how the fudge do you get around that? i dont know any other rules but nice video caboose
Title: Re: Halo - The Story Post by: SgtCaboose on 04/10/2007, 08:59 PM thankyou colonel.
And yes, you arent allowed to use the sounds. However that is refering to you, say, stealing its music, or, using its gunshot sounds in another game. However aslong as the video and audio are together it doesnt matter. Very fucking confusing. Title: Re: Halo - The Story Post by: Ice on 04/10/2007, 10:33 PM nice caboose.. i like.. How long until part two?
Guys honestly, the guys asks for advice and you give him legal shit.. As if i mean tell me as if they are gonna come looking for some dude who has made one little video! God i love you virgil but alot of the shit you said was quiet unnescary for a dude just trying to show you guys a movie he made.. God way to take it WAYYYYYY to seriously!.... (not trying to start a shit fight just give the guy a chance is all) Title: Re: Halo - The Story Post by: SgtCaboose on 05/10/2007, 08:31 AM Thankyou Ice. Im glad that you enjoyed it. Hopefully Part 2 will be today/tommorow hopefully.
And lol Virgil, you got served by Ice. Also, I know the legal implications. If it was EA and I was making a huge site that sold shit. I wouldnt post it here. But seeing as its Bungie and its just a little video Im pretty sure that they wont mind. But Virgil I know exactly what you are saying, however I feel if Sammy or Smiddi feel that there is going to be legal action against this clan for a video I made and is hosted on another website, then its their choice to remove it, however I feel they will understand the chances of sueing, let alone sueing the clan which is almost completely uninvolved, is very low. Title: Re: Halo - The Story Post by: Shaada on 05/10/2007, 09:04 AM 1. Stfu guys, keep it peaceful before this gets locked. We do have a lot of Halo fans here.
2. About the movie. If you look at it from a person who has never played Halo's point of view then the video is quite confusing, especially since there are quite long cinematics and then some short fast stuff. So in saying that this would probably interest Halo players - but then that makes the video kind of pointless. My advice: work out who you want to cater for and then produce the video that way. Atm its in the middle which IMO, makes it boring and a waste of time. Has potential though. One last thing, the intro is really good - I like it, but the text is blurry and needs to be re-worked. Also, there are a couple mistakes in there that if you watch the intro I'm sure you'll pick up. Oh and theres a long pause with a blank screen that could be taken out/shortened. Try something new with part 2... a whole bunch of cinematics is boring as fuck. Try to use gameplay to tell the story using the voices of the players in the game like you did at 06:06 - thats good. Also, try not to make it look like you're rushing the story. Near the end you seem to be rushing and skipping places so you can get to the pod to escape - it makes it look really hurried and un-appealing, especially to someone who has played the game. Not sure how you would go about fixing that. Lol wrote more than I thought I would... anyway, last thing: don't suck at the game :P. Aim higher XD Title: Re: Halo - The Story Post by: Z00111111 on 05/10/2007, 09:12 AM now thats constructive criticism.
ill give it a watch when i get a chance, but it sounds like Shaada has covered alot. i get the feeling i missed out on some big 'lets hate Caboose' meeting.. Title: Re: Halo - The Story Post by: SgtCaboose on 05/10/2007, 09:23 AM Hahah z00, everyone hatesd to miss those, even me :P
And Shaada heres some responses (BTW thats the type of post I was hoping for) Quote 2. I understand what your saying, but my problem was that the start of halo 1 really is jsut cinematics. I am hoping to get a bit more gameplay. Quote One last thing, the intro is really good - I like it, but the text is blurry and needs to be re-worked. This is because of the font. When I was previewing the movie (I use Vegas) I ammumed that it may be giving off a lower quality as Vegas does that with fonts sometimes. However upon further inspection I noticed that the actual font isnt detailed enough. I used Arial to have a look and its crisp as. This cannot be halped but as you will see at the start of Part 2 (probably today) it doesn zoo min so the font is crisp. Quote Also, there are a couple mistakes in there that if you watch the intro I'm sure you'll pick up. Im guessing your refering to a video missing in one of the heartbeats? Genuine mistake, this was caused because Vegas cant load all of the different clips at the same speed they are meant to be played and i generally dont pay attention to the intro when im reviewing the post video. Quote Oh and theres a long pause with a blank screen that could be taken out/shortened. The long black part, i initially did it without it and it seemed a little bit odd, however that wont be in future parts.Quote Try something new with part 2... a whole bunch of cinematics is boring as fuck. 6:06 is happening alot more, I had a bit of a problem with FRAPS and alot of the video got corrupted, hence the missing scenes before boarding the escape pod. This is also partly why it appears Im rushing the story :)Title: Re: Halo - The Story Post by: SgtCaboose on 05/10/2007, 09:24 AM Oh, btw, in part 2 there is currently 25 seconds of cinematics and 3:30 of gameplay...with 6:06 action included :)
Also, I just found a funny blooper, i was trying to make something cinematic by doing a slide in a warthog and fell off a cliff and had to redo the entire area :P Title: Re: Halo - The Story Post by: SgtCaboose on 05/10/2007, 10:18 AM I understand Virgy, we all have those kinds of days. Besides I enjoy arguing so it worked out win-win :P
Ep 2 coming very soon guys :P Title: Re: Halo - The Story Post by: MXfLy on 05/10/2007, 10:27 AM How about...render the graphics so its DX10 style? That would be impressive.
Title: Re: Halo - The Story Post by: SgtCaboose on 05/10/2007, 10:35 AM lol...how can you render a DX9 game to DX10? You want me to create a new engine, new images, new everything...
Title: Re: Halo - The Story Post by: Z00111111 on 05/10/2007, 10:42 AM yes.
please? Title: Re: Halo - The Story Post by: MXfLy on 05/10/2007, 10:50 AM Everything.
lol - would be cool though....you've got to admit that... Title: Re: Halo - The Story Post by: SgtCaboose on 05/10/2007, 11:49 AM it would be rather. use the halo3 engine and recreate all of the maps and missions...awesome.
