I regret to inform Death Inc that Bageled has just recieved a formal warning for this thread and if he uses the words XBox, Playstion, PS (any number), console etc again, he will be forcibly removed from the clan, despite his years of hard work, by large beefy men who will then insert an Xbox into his ring hole...and they wont use lube.

I own Xbox 360, PS3, Wii and 5 pc's.

First person shooters only on PC fullstop do not pass go.

Xbox 360 only bought it for Forza 2 and till this day have only ever played Forza 2 and 3 and some boxing on it.

PS3 . only bought it as a blue ray player and a media centre. It has only beed used as that for 2 years.

Wii is only for the misses but she plays more pc games anyway.

So I don't see the problem to own a console.

As I said earlier (which i've quoted Miss Kylie) ...Yes I own a PS3..I use it to watch Blue Ray, play music and use its screensaver and as a coaster.  I hate its games and think its total fail and its responsible for PC games being held back so far as development goes, it is also responsible for AIDS but I cant prove that yet...fucking consoles  >:(

I got it thinking the games would be good..or at least fun...interesting even?  but no..guitar hero is fun with mates..same with Buzz...but any racing, fighting, shooting games just plain suck and are not worth setting back game improvement via performance and graphics on ALL platforms for.

At least the second reason I got it , blue ray at the time, and it was a tiny bit more for a PS3 than a blue ray player..so why not methinks, but that has been good to me :)

The Xbox Kinect is freaking awesome, I have one and I can't wait until game developers start using it. I have never been blown away by a gaming system before, but the Kinect is like a dream come true. Granted there are very few games for it now, but that is to be expected for new technology. The Kinect is going to reinvent the gaming experience, it will recreate old genres and create new genres.

I have a fighting game on my xbox where you stand in front of the tv and throw punches and kicks, and shout to do special moves. Fun, so much fun. There is something so cool about having the character onscreen mimic your body as you move, and navigating menus by waving your hand in the air so cool. Heck the thing even has an automatic facial recognition system so when you swap players, it swaps profile.

I'm so glad I spent 5k building an uber computer that loads Windows in 5 seconds so I can play minecraft.

At the end of the day who cares, games are games, the only difference is the interface. 15-20 years ago PC gaming was pushing the envelope and developing new genres. Today consoles are the cutting edge in gaming, but I don't think it matters, all it means is there are more and better games to play. Regardless of who develops and distributes the game, the only real difference it makes to me is wether I sit on my couch ar at my desk, either way I/we as gamers win.

Kinect and Move are still so slow response time wise and you stll cant go full speed, they still misinterperet moves etc.  (you'll note in that little star wars clip that the on screen actually moves BEFORE the guy, so he's not making it happen that quickly/smoothly and i've played both Kinect & Move) ... if it was a modern console..with modern tech though, it would only be better as it would increase detection and response time...let alone the increase in graphics capability, true?  They're still a hell of a lot better than their predecessors though and they ARE fun :)

Consoles are faaarr from the cutting edge of gaming though dude...they just control the market and are a ball & chain on the games that could & should be getting developed...becaus ethe tech is seven years old


Game developers agree..thus why EA are making BF3 a pc game and then dumming it down for consoles graphicallly etc.  As far as minecraft goes you can also play all the console port games on UBER settings true?  You haven't even seen a game that can use what your PC's processing and drawing power can do..Because the games are being developed for consoles again for 7 year old tech.  

I built my pc 3 years ago and am yet to find a game I cant play on Ultra settings because of the same prob..yet 7-8 years ago my PC would've been obsolete in months because the games were improving rapidly, thus the attraction to consoles..now, developments stalled due to their influence and this popularity :(

If they closed the gap on tech, made them upgradeable, with keyboard & mouse and made them more PC like as far as communication goes I might even swap to them myself and I'd happily support the idea and invite console gamers to join us as we are at heart a gaming community as well as a clan and the more the merrier...but till that day happens we are a PC gaming clan and consoles have no place in this clan....pumping them up is only encouraging people to play console games and NOT hop on TS and play with us...and I certainly do not want to encourage people to be less active in the clan, we're missing a hell of a lot of our old regulars as it is.

Consoles have their place (and their gaming clans) ...for parties/guests they're a great source of entertainment....I just reckon everyone should stop buying this 7 year old shit and force the developers to create the next gen in them, why would they spend $$$ on R & D when the sheep keep buying their old product?

 If they develop the next gen (which is well overdue) it will then = a boost in PC game development as well and everyone's happy :)

Chalice's argument raises this. He is saying that game developers cater to the old technology of consoles. The reason you dont have to upgrade every 2 years is because game developers are not developing games that require it.

If they were to push the limits of todays technology in game development, im sure that consoles wouldnt be able to keep up. but instead they contain themselves and make do with the technology in the consoles

This is exactly the issue, too many platforms for developers... so instead of making games to take full advantage of the PC's greater processing power and versatility they make games primarily for console and make a lazy port for PC. This is especially evident in games like Fallout 3 where you can't remap buttons for simple things like flashlight, to a key... instead you have to hold down the inventory button. That makes sense on a console with limited keys on its controller but on a PC its stupid, and would have taken fuck all effort to add for the PC port.

I don't think I need to say too much about dumbing down of games for console... the latest Civilization game was a disappointment because it was basically an updated PC port of 'Civ Revolutions' which was the console version of Civ. The gameplay is simplistic and fairly boring compared to earlier installments. Look at the latest COD game, remember that youtube where the bloke went through the first level without shooting once?
The fact is that games are getting dumber because of console gamers.


Console controllers are definitely one of the limiting factors for innovation in gaming. So you can't be too surprised about new developments like Kinect. Stuff like this will soon be coming to PC, but it will never replace keyboard and mouse for shooting games- nothing at the moment comes close to the level of precision and rate of movement that keyboard/mouse can provide. There hasn't been much progress on the old mouse and keyboard because its so good at what it does already.


neither do I.... you can play the latest games on lower detail settings without upgrading. You can stretch it out to 4 years if you wanted to, maybe even more. Many PC gamers are enthusiasts and like to upgrade more regularly, but that's their prerogative and not a necessity.

Agree and I understand..as I said in my last post.  You also dont have to upgrade your PC because game improvement has stalled because of them.

I cant understand how you could possibly defend consoles?  Really dont..its a no brainer really.  Are you REALLY that happy playing games that are effectively 7 years old graphically and with 7 year old physic's and you're actually stating that its great that we aren't seeing games with true to life graphics and effects  or further development in gaming because of it?

The games you're playing maybe great..maybe fun as hell....but they SHOULD be better..support the consoles by all means, but at least push for the next gen and not play on tech thats fast approaching a decade old and again is stalling development and improvement on your beloved consoles as well as PC.

And again as in my last post..we are a PC gaming clan until they close the gap on the interactivity between PC gamers and Console gamers as far as communication and gaming goes.  I DO NOT support people in this clan promoting console gaming as it takes people away from gaming and interacting with US as a clan.  There are plenty of console gaming clans out there to cater for console gamers, we cater to PC gamers until that gap closes.

I'm happy if you guys want to throw up a SCHEDULED monthly XBox night if you like, so you guys can get together and game on that platform?..but for now thats it for the above reason that it takes people off TS, off our forums and not gaming with us.  We need to be doing shit to increase these activities, not decreasing them.

Current console developers aren't pressed to make newer platforms and because of that everyone is still playing games that are effectively 7 yrs old compared to what they could be like...the word is that the next gen consoles will appear in 2015, 10 YEARS after the current one's are released...picture it, thats like us still playing on a Sega master system or Nintendo instead of the XboX 360 dude and people are actually happy and defending that the progress has been stalled!  

The second thing is..we are a PC gaming clan till they close the gap in in the stuff I mentioned above and till they do we dont and cant have console members so we are PC only as such we should not be promoting console gaming as it draws people away from TS, the forums as they are not playing WITH us...we should be encouraging people to be MORE interactive with us..not less.

The only console I have and like, is the PS2.

Why, you might ask? Back then they still made platformers, which naturally go best with a controller (Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, Jak & Daxter, even Ratchet & Clank). Modern consoles have damn near zero platformers nowadays, instead milking the FPS genre that PC's deal with far far far better.

Modern consoles really offer nothing different than a PC except less versatility. Price? Factor in the cost of your TV, it should balance out at least to a decent PC. Can you do work or (easily) surf the net on a console? Nope. Imagine trying to "type" a word document using an Xbox.

At least take the courtesy to read peoples ENTIRE posts before being rude enough to quote me and throw a snide comment in there for no reason as I'm not saying I dont like consoles specifically..I dont like that developers are stalling the progress of game development etc etc.

The future of computing is lightspace and surface computing. To me the Kinect qualifies consoles as the cutting edge because it is first commercial use of the 3d camera's Microsoft developed for Lightspace. The Kinect isn't a gimic, it's the first emergence of seriously paradigm changing technology. The money they make and lessons they learn from console games using Kinect is going to refine the camera system which will roll straight into improving Lightspace, and through that console games are going to change the world.

Have you guys seen Lightspace or Surface?!? The PC as we know it is on it's way out whether we talk about it on these forums or not and it's console gaming that brought the tech into the market first.

I saw this tech used in a video arcade in Tokyo 3 years ago for an rts game, There was a row of them, it looked awesome.

In all seriousness, I don't think anything sold commercially could qualify as "cutting edge".

It's simply technology that has progressed to the point where it can be manufactured and sold en masse for minimum cost. Thus turning a profit. Cutting edge technology is almost never commercially viable (I'm pretty sure, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong).

If anything is "cutting edge", it would be contained in a top-secret military bunker somewhere.  :-*

cutting edge is always available to industry but it is generally very expensive for years then plummest to affordability. before affordability it is generally unreliable and limited in ability.

but i am opinion and this is only what i have found that happens with me but i generally only play consoles when i am drinking and hanging with mates. that is about it and i usually get a bit annoyed that i have slow controls but i like it coz i can have fun with mates
now this is mostly done on weekends ect

playing on pc is most of the time epic fun - especially since getting on TS and chatting while gamin - lans are fun as well but home is best and usually i am on most nights of the week

now i know it has all been said and i do agree with chal on most of it but i do say that both have there places in the gaming world and it will end with what people are comfortable with

i do reckon though both are going to be going strong for a long time for there will always be people who like pc and like the complextiy of it all and others that like consoles that will for the simplicity

I think Alucard is right. I think consoles are superior for playing when you've got other people in your house. They're great for social gaming, but the control systems are far too cumbersome and inaccurate for proper competitive gameplay.

Well it's the lack of accurate control that makes them not good competitively. It seems most of the games have mild autoaim, or everyone just sprays and prays. I personally give a lot more credit to games where winning is more about strategy and teamwork than the dexterity of an individual.

so it really depends on what you play and when.
Also , Kinect is pretty cool although it needs more titles to come out. I Actually like the way MS are integrating their PC and Xbox stuff via Win Media player.. i would say i use my xbox as a media pc more than anything at the moment ,well.. until AFL 2011 comes out this week (sport game hence console).
However, i am thinking i will be upgrading my PC soon judging by the previews for BF3...pure FPS porn...

I just got OF: Red River and its alot more fun 4 player Co-op :) (Story had some kick ass Fights) to bad they dont have VS coz i always won when I VSed my friends (3v1 OF:DR)

Quite frankly, it's alright but it has no real match against the might of the PC. hell, I've got a few games from 2007 on PC that look and play better than games from 2010 on a console.

Quite frankly, I wouldn't mind them as much if they were around but games were ported from PC. How it should be anyway
