Title: Best City in Australia Post by: inwalda on 17/02/2011, 01:31 PM Chalice and myself got into a 'heated' debate over which city is better, the Gold Coast or Sydney. Eventually I conceded that in fact the Gold Coast is better than Sydney. So in everyones opinion:
What is the best city in Australia and/or New Zealand and why? Title: Re: Best City in Australia Post by: DonutKing on 17/02/2011, 01:33 PM they're all pretty terrible to be honest
But gold coast better than sydney? rofl Title: Re: Best City in Australia Post by: Syklone on 17/02/2011, 01:37 PM Gold Coast is full of fuckwith muppets in Skylines and lowered Lancers all trying to be cool and pick up skanky tennie bopper chicks.
Sorry if I offended but to me thats all it is - a sleazy crowded tourist town with no positive infrastructure or hope IMHO. I prefer the Sunshine Coast but if your looking for a cool place, check out Woorabinda :P Title: Re: Best City in Australia Post by: Dex on 17/02/2011, 01:40 PM Perth.
just kidding. Beats Adelaide though... Title: Re: Best City in Australia Post by: Ice on 17/02/2011, 01:41 PM depends how you rate it:
Sydney for example has more drugs, positives in some minds, negatives in others. Melbourne has less gimps and fuck wits, some get along with fuck wits. and Tasmania in general has two headed people and fuck their sisters, positives for some, negatives for others.. Title: Re: Best City in Australia Post by: Chalice on 17/02/2011, 01:44 PM Gold Coast isn't a city, but surfers is nice..nicer than bloody sydney, due to tourism no doubt...but have you ever lived in Sydney?
Sydney is a hole as far as cities go..its cramped, packed, smelly, shit public transport, Bageled, shit layout, RIOTS, old and poorly maintained and full of foreigners IMO. (I'm talking about the city not any suberbs) I personally think Melbourne is the better city...still chock full of foreigners but at least the rest is better and at least melbourneians dont say their city is the best cuz it was their turn for the olympics and for the sake of it :P I've either visited or lived in every city on the east coast so this is at least my "informed opinion"..unlike some others ;D LET THE FLAMAGE BEGIN!! p.s. HAVING said all that..come to this years =]DI[= Meet which is in ...Sydney...see for yourself !! ;D Title: Re: Best City in Australia Post by: Ice on 17/02/2011, 01:45 PM couldn't agree more ^^ Melbourne wins.
Thread Closed. I prefer the Sunshine Coast but if your looking for a cool place, check out Woorabinda :P All cities have those people though mate, Prahan, St Kilda in Melbourne and I forget where in Sydney, Brisbane has them..Damit & Random know where to go though..so I think that cancels that out :D Title: Re: Best City in Australia Post by: Slash on 17/02/2011, 02:06 PM I think that really, they all have their positives and negatives and no city is better than the next. (There is an exception to this rule which I will explain later)
For example, Melbourne. Positives: Great sports facilities. Good music scene. Good transportation options. (compared to where I live) Negatives: Pretty goddam boring and bland though other than that. Sydney. Positives: Has all those cool landmarks. Harbour scenery. Negatives: Everyone keeps getting shot. Brisbane. Positives: Beautiful waterside scenery right from the front door of your house. Nehatives: Beautiful waterside scenery right from the front door of your house. Gold Coast/Sunshine Coast. Positives: Great tourist destination. Sun and beaches and fun. Negatives: Lots of tourists. Perth. No one cares. But Fremantle kicks the shit out of it these days from what I hear. Adelaide. I went there once, saw Aboriginals smoking a bong on a ratty couch in their front yard. Darwin. Hot. Now on to actual good places. Launceston wins. Everything you ever need is right here. We have a goddam natural beauty right in the middle of town, with a big old swimming pool right next to it with heaps of hot chicks. If that doesn't suit you, there are fantastic beaches as close as 30 minutes away. The pubs are all pretty much sweet and because there isn't a fuck ton of people here like all your shitty ass cities, there is an associated drop in the amount of fuckbags present. If I want to go smash it on an awesome twisty road, there are great mountain roads in every direction only 30 minutes away and through beautiful green countryside. It takes 15 minutes to get across town, it doesn't take fucking hours to go anywhere like it does in big cities, I don't have to worry about where to park my car because there is tons of spots and it doesn't cost a million dollars. Negatives: All the douche bags who complain about how crap it is here and move away only to come back like a year later. Now the exception to the rule, is that Launceston is better than Hobart, the state capital. It just is. Title: Re: Best City in Australia Post by: KARNAGE on 17/02/2011, 02:15 PM Melbourne FTW!!!
I remember the first thing I saw when I went into Canberra... It was a warehouse that sold nothing but porn. the place is a very small city with not much to do. however, Parliament house during question time is fucking hilarious, best part of the place. I love Melbourne though, it's the best. oh yeah, and then there's Adelaide. IMO South Australia's a fucked up state. takes at least an hour to get ANYWHERE, there's a barrage of flies, nothing to do without driving for ages, then Adelaide: The wind blows in opposing directions and there's only 1 tram line and yet it fails A LOT more often than Melbourne. I haven't been in Sydney long enough to really give a good opinion. I always go there to leave it :P I wouldn't mind seeing Brisbane, because seeing as how both Qld and Vic have a rivalry with NSW we get along :) Title: Re: Best City in Australia Post by: Chalice on 17/02/2011, 02:16 PM I think that really, they all have their positives and negatives and no city is better than the next. But We have Bageled and Inwalda and Jstar Nuff said Title: Re: Best City in Australia Post by: Z00111111 on 17/02/2011, 04:30 PM Best of all, I'm in Sydney, and Chalice isn't.
Like the Gold Coast, Chalice is best enjoyed occasionally. Like a night with a hooker. Title: Re: Best City in Australia Post by: Chalice on 17/02/2011, 04:32 PM I too give you crabs!
Title: Re: Best City in Australia Post by: Alucard on 17/02/2011, 05:22 PM well i have been to a few places
Brisbane: lived here all my life know my way around the northside pretty well and it is heaps better than the south side :P Macky: in summer it is like breathing water up there on a hot humid day, has nice beaches and genially has nice weather Sydney: have been there a couple of times and not too much different from Brisbane CBD but alot more compact in even in the burbs Melbourne: have been there once and well to be honest was quite drunk the whole time so i dont remember much of it Canberra: is one big roundabout and friccking cold Gold coast/ sunshine coast: are friccking great to visit for a holiday but dont like the idea of living there all in all i would say it would more important to me to be able to hang out with my mates and know where to go to have a good party Title: Re: Best City in Australia Post by: cowcar on 17/02/2011, 05:50 PM i have lived in (for more than 3 years in each) : Melbourne, Hobart, Manchester and just outside of New York. I have been too countless more cities. My opinion: All cities have their positives and negatives, and which is best depends on you.
Title: Re: Best City in Australia Post by: Dex on 17/02/2011, 05:52 PM but cowcar likes the freedom of incest that Hobart gives him
Title: Re: Best City in Australia Post by: cowcar on 17/02/2011, 05:54 PM San Fran would be Dex's favorite city...
Title: Re: Best City in Australia Post by: Dex on 17/02/2011, 05:59 PM enlighten me please cowraper?
Title: Re: Best City in Australia Post by: bageled on 17/02/2011, 06:09 PM hey, i resemble one of those comments....you know cow, Sydney is the sister city to San Francisco, or shuold I say brother city......
as for the riots, I was living about 5 minutes walk from the centre of said riot, and was there that day. It is the biggest media blow up I have ever been witness to.. Sure there was some violence, but when you've got 30,000 or so blokes wandering around chugging down long necks of course there is going to be violence. Considering the number of people and the amount of alcohol I saw being consumed they were practically singing koombyah for the number of fights there were. If you saturated any town with media on a saturday night you'd get more footage of fights than they claim made a riot in Cronulla. Sensationalist media, created the event, then turned presented it in the way that best profited them. Anyways, of the towns I've lived in, Maroochydore in the Sunshine Coast has the best memories. From what I've seen of Melbourne I liked it. From what I've seen of Melbourne I liked it. You know what? I think you're right. I've got good vague memories of walking to 711 in Maroochydore to buy microwave burgers while really stoned. And from what I remember of seeing of Melbourne, I liked it. But who doesn't like tits? Title: Re: Best City in Australia Post by: DonutKing on 17/02/2011, 06:55 PM Whereabouts in NY did you live cowcar?
I wouldn't want to live there personally, had a few cool things to visit but overall it was crowded and the streets and air was filthy. It was very safe though, had no qualms wandering around at night. Unlike San Francisco which was filled with bums and hookers, apart from that it generally seemed like a more pleasant place to live though. Yes they do have a gay district where the power poles are painted in rainbow colours. Funnily enough Columbus, Ohio was the US city that reminded me the most of an Australian city, mainly due to the river going through the centre of it. Unlike Brisbane it had a very sensible road network, streets were mainly arranged in a grid pattern and there was a ring road freeway going around the city making it very easy to navigate, Brisbane on the other hand has had very little thought or planning going into its road networks, its just a mish-mash of paved horse and sulky tracks, if you don't know where you're going its very easy to get lost. Gold coast, while technically not a city, is OK during the day, very touristy, but turns to shit at night when all the scumbags come out to prey on the vapid skanks. Best avoided to be honest. The people there seem to have an attitude too. Personally I can't stand cities and much prefer to have a bit of space so I live out in a semi-rural area :) Title: Re: Best City in Australia Post by: Slash on 17/02/2011, 06:56 PM Ohh Z00 has reminded me. Another positive of Melbourne city is that unlike Launceston, if you go into the city, every single woman there is fucking hot. I swear it was just all these chicks in either tights or short skirts or some combination.
And the half asian/half white birds. Jesus titty fucking Christ there is some talent. Title: Re: Best City in Australia Post by: cowcar on 17/02/2011, 07:32 PM Whereabouts in NY did you live cowcar? I actually like San fran, or more accurately, San Jose... would live there , particularly around the Palo Alto area. very nice.. Title: Re: Best City in Australia Post by: BoHiCa on 18/02/2011, 08:50 AM Whilst not a city my redneck town of Yallourn North, is cool it has a power generator so i can game. it has adsl 2+ so I hit the world 23Mbps and none of you crunts are in rock chucking distance. :)
