Title: Graphic Audio Post by: Dex on 29/01/2011, 10:18 PM I dont know if any of you are as lazy as I am, but i have come to enjoy the use of audio books rather than reading the book for myself.
For the most part, I have read all the books previously before i listen to someone narrate them, but I have stumbled upon "graphic audio" books. What it is, is basically cinema for the mind. Elantris by Brandon Sanderson (the guy now finishing the wheel of time) has been made into one of these graphic audio books. He comments on it on his website Quote When we were looking at selling audio rights to Elantris, my agent approached me with an interesting suggestion. Instead of one edition, he thought we could get two separate ones made. The reason was he had two companies interested, both of which were willing to let the other also do an edition. One was wanting to produce a traditional audio edition, unabridged, read word for word. The other wanted to do what is called a performed abridged edition. In short, this company—Graphic Audio—wanted to do a version like an old-time radio drama. It would be 'abridged' only in that they would cut out the dialogue tags—since different actors would be playing each character—and some of the blocking. (For instance, where I wrote that a door opened, they'd replace this with the sound of a door opening.) I was intrigued, and more than a little excited, particularly after I met with the folks from Graphic Audio. They had a very good vibe to them. It's hard to explain, but I just liked them, and liked what they were doing. Well, Elantris is finally out from Graphic Audio, and I suggest you give their demo a listen. It's a completely new way to experience the book. I'm hoping it will do well, since I'd like to see a similar treatment for some of my future books. The stand alone novels—Elantris and Warbreaker—are what I'm most eager to see done this way, as I think they lend themselves very well to this format. They're doing it in three parts, and the price looks very good. All three parts bought on sale will cost about the same as a hardcover edition, which is very good for an audio book. Part one is out now; the second two parts will come soon. Im going to give it a try soon, just thought i'd share Title: Re: Graphic Audio Post by: Z00111111 on 29/01/2011, 10:43 PM Sounds interesting. I've heard some bits from the original War of the Worlds radio play, and if it's done anywhere near as good as that, it'd be awesome.
Title: Re: Graphic Audio Post by: cowcar on 30/01/2011, 04:13 PM sounds gay.. and i dont mean lame, i mean "do some other guy in the ass whilst giving a reach around" gay...
war of the worlds original (narrated i believe by Orson Wells?) was good, but it was because radio was the prime means of entertainment at the time. Times have changed... move with them, and stop being gay...not to mention that Elantris is certianly no H.G Wells novel... Title: Re: Graphic Audio Post by: Dex on 30/01/2011, 04:20 PM cowcar obviously wasn't held as a child....
And speaking of "moving with the times" Googling H.G Wells showed all images of him in black and white.... We have colour now cowcar, find an author with some and use him instead. Title: Re: Graphic Audio Post by: Syklone on 30/01/2011, 04:37 PM OOOhhhh cant wait. I look forward to the Harry Potter Novels done in Graphic Audio.

I treat TS as my own personal Audio book :) Title: Re: Graphic Audio Post by: DonutKing on 30/01/2011, 06:32 PM I've never tried it but I know that BBC release a few audio dramas, there are a few for Doctor Who for example, and they are unique stories (i.e. they aren't stories from TV or novels, they are stories only available in audio drama form, and usually have the TV actors voicing them).
